About

Metallica was formed by drummer Lars Ulrich and singer/guitarist James Hetfield in Los Angeles in 1981; since then, their astonishing career milestones include winning eight Grammys and selling over 125 million albums worldwide, including the critically-acclaimed Master of Puppets (1986), often cited as one of the most important metal albums in history. They are also one of the most popular and commercially successful touring acts in history — according to Pollstar, as of 2019 Metallica had sold over 22 million tickets and grossed $1.4 billion in touring since 1982. Metallica’s fifth studio album, Metallica (1991), famously known as The Black Album, has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and features some of the band’s biggest hits: “Nothing Else Matters,” “The Unforgiven” and “Enter Sandman.” On six consecutive genre-defining studio albums (from 1991’s Metallica through 2016’s Hardwired… to Self-Destruct), Metallica has consistently debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In support of their 2023 album 72 Seasons, Metallica’s M72 World Tour will see the band playing two nights in every city they visit throughout 2023-24.

Bands great. Sound in the Big O is rough.

by Chris on 2024-02-21Stade olympique - Montreal

As the province of Quebec and the city of Montreal have already determined, the Big O needs a lot of work. Getting everyone in and all that was good. Staff was friendly. They could have handled the merch tables a bit better, that was a zoo. The sound in the stadium is rough. But it is a stadium, you're not going for the acoustics. But in general the Big O is in need of work. Bands were great though, and staff at the event were very helpful and friendly.

Big O, more like big blow!

by Nessy on 2023-12-08Stade olympique - Montreal

From what could be understood of the music being played, which was not much due to the absolute terrible sound quality created by echoes in the big O, I think the bands did alright, really can't fault them for trying to put on a show in such a terrible venue however. For anyone thinking of seeing any band perform in the big O, just don't do it.

    Excellent!

    by Dr Nichons on 2023-10-25

Rock on!

    An amazing live experience

    by Herooftheday316 on 2023-10-24Stade olympique - Montreal

Not my first time seeing Metallica but it always feels like the first. Will see them any chance I have the pleasure. It was nice to see 2 different shows with tones of different songs. I real pleasure. Opening bands were good also. Sound at the venue is not great and there are not many ways to leave efficiently so there is a lot of waiting around after the concert.

    Montreal Aug 11 & 13, 2023

by Toronto Metal Guy on 2023-09-09

I agree with some of the other comments, the Friday sound was not very good. Yes it’s not the best venue for quality sound, but the Sunday show sounded immensely better. Could this have been because of rental equipment used after the truck accident on the way from NJ the previous weekend? I’m any case, all in all it was an awesome weekend, just not sure why Toronto wasn’t chosen, last year we had to go to Buffalo to see them.

Awesome performance with terrible sound quality

by Major on 2023-09-07Stade olympique - Montreal

Seeing Metallica is always a major event. These guys are built for the road. Only thing is i can only remember 1 show where it sounded good…and it wasn’t at the olympic stadium. The venu REALLY needs an acoustic treatment with professional consultants. It’s almost an insult to the fans but even more to metallica, that after 40 years of performances they cannot get good live sound in montreal. Bell center sounds better, and that’s not even a great sounding venue…. My honest two cents. As for the organization, it was clearly well organized . The customer service, the paths to walk, the security was all great. But beer was INSANELY expensive. 15$ for coors light…. Come on, really? Tis not enough that we’re paying hundreds of dollars for a ticket, alcohol should be at a reasonable price. This was just taking advantage of people.

Bands were amazing. The venue sounds terrible.

by Hyjynx on 2023-09-04Stade olympique - Montreal

All 5 bands were amazing over both nights. Even with millions of dollars in top notch PA they couldn't defeat the awful acoustics in Olympic Stadium though.

    Great show! bad acoustics

    by Angie on 2023-08-24

Metallica and Pantera are great bands, the show was amazing! but the Olympic Stadium in Montreal is really bad for the sound... they should not make concerts at this venue anymore!!!

    Good but not great

    by bermental on 2023-08-23

Sound on night 1 was absolutely terrible but was fixed by night 2. Food options (outside) were really good but the pizza (9$ a slice) was inedible and cold. We took two bites and threw them out. One of the worst things I've put in my mouth. The signage in the metros and the instructions shared by Metallica and the venue/city were excellent. Overall really good but somethings that can definitely be improved.
