About

MIKE & THE MECHANICS IN CONCERT:

Pop rock supergroup Mike & The Mechanics began as a Genesis offshoot in the mid-'80s and quickly become a sensation in their own right with arena-sized anthems about patriotism, fatherhood, and love. At the band's career-spanning live shows timeless ballads like "The Living Years" and "Over My Shoulder" sound as fresh as they did fifteen years ago, moving ticket buyers of all generations with soaring melodies and poignant lyrics. Mike and Company temper their slower tunes with upbeat favorites like "Silent Running" and "All I Need Is a Miracle", giving their '80s synthpop counterparts a run for their money with exuberant performances that always get fans dancing. Whether they're taking it fast or slow, Mike & The Mechanics deliver a feel-good concert experience for new and true fans alike.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mike Rutherford, guitarist for legendary British rock band Genesis, formed Mike & The Mechanics as a side project in 1985. Together with lead singer Paul Carrack, Rutherford penned a string of late-'80s chart smashes that established the band as one of the UK's preeminent soft rock groups. They hit the ground running with their self-titled 1985 debut album, climbing the charts with catchy singles like "Silent Running" and "Taken In". Superstardom followed just a few years later when their 1989 sophomore album The Living Years peaked at No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart, topping charts in the US and Europe with its title track. Despite several lineup changes the band remained a consistent chart presence throughout the '90s and '00s thanks to popular albums like 1995's Beggar on a Beach of Gold and 2004's Rewired. Following Carrack's departure the band went on hiatus from 2004 until 2010, when Rutherford reemerged with a completely new lineup. The new formation's debut together, 2011's The Road, proved they had lost none of their magic, drumming up anticipation among fans for their future tours.

New line up shapes up really well on stage. Terrific show and lots of enthusiasm from the Band. Genesis material makes a good addition. Venue was good. Excellent views and sound systems. Great parking.

    Father-Son Outing

by GenesisNutBar on 2015-03-13Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

The music of Mike Rutherford and the other guys from Genesis was introduced to me first by my father. Since then I've delved deeply into their music to the point where it became my music, and not just my father's music. Seeing Mike + The Mechanics live with him was a wonderful moment we shared together.

Mike & the Mechanics; maybe the last time?

by HAWKS10 on 2015-03-13Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

As Mike and the other members of Genesis are aging, not only is there not much chance of a reunion tour, our opportunity to see their solo work live is likewise slim. Seeing them up close in a smaller venue was a special treat and we were not disappointed. The band has two amazing singers and great musical talent among all of them. They got into the spirit of the evening and engaged well with the crowd. Toronto has long been a strong market for their music. A special treat was the 1/2 hour opening act of Daryl Stuermer playing solo (with backup on his MacBook). The only let down was the 1/2 hour of watching the roadies set up all the amps & guitars for Mike. But they played a solid hour and a half, making it all worthwhile.

    the Mechanics can Fix it

by craner on 2015-03-13Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

It was great to get to see Mike and the Mechanics , I've been a fan for a long time , they played all the great songs , a couple of new ones , both Tim and Andrew really brought the crowd out and the whole group put on a spectacular show , Daryl Stuermer who opened the show is an amazing guitar player and he didn't drag out an opening act as some opening acts do . The venue was an intimate theater with great acoustics , just the right size . All in all I'd go again tomorrow if they were here

    Mike & the Mechanics

by hgdfergy on 2015-03-13Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

It has been a long time since Mike & the Mechanics played Toronto. They had never performed Genesis tunes before. They threw in a couple this time which was fine. Their music is good and I enjoyed it. The crowd loved their big hits which they left for the end of the main set. I found it incredible how the small venue had so many empty seats for such a good band. I guess it was not very well advertised.

    Re-Living Years

by JoeAnonymous on 2015-03-04Sands Bethlehem Event Center - Bethlehem

As teenagers, we spent many evenings in Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens watching Mike Rutherford perform with Genesis. We decided to take a road trip from Hamilton, Ontario to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to celebrate our 7th anniversary, and relive memories from our younger years. (Full disclosure, we did not know each other as teenagers.) An amazing evening! The pure joy, passion, and expertise of the band was evident from the first note. The vocal skills of both Andrew Roachford and Tim Howar left us wanting to listen to, and learn, more of their solo work. There was no misunderstanding, younger years were re-lived and new memories were created.
