Nothing bad against the game. Good caliber, great bball. But to pay 64$ to be tucked beside the stats and score table and not being able to see half of the court kind of pissed me off. Especially because my son couldn't see anything at all. The seating chart needs to be more representative of the actual environment. We ended up sitting in the stands, half way up. Much more enjoyable. That ticket would have been half the cost too.

    Power Game

by BRIBRI on 2013-11-24Hershey Centre - Mississauga

Before I begin, I want to emphasize that I think it's terrific that Canada has it's own basketball league and I would really like it to succeed! The price of entry in to the arena as well as the cost of concessions is more than reasonable and an average family can afford to go to a Mississauga Power (or any other NBL) game. Ample and free parking also makes the experience more affordable and enjoyable. In terms of entertainment value, it was a very lopsided game with Mississauga getting destroyed by London, however, the overall quality of play was good. The atmosphere is another story. There weren't many people there, and no matter how entertaining a game is, if there aren't a lot of people in the stands, the excitement level isn't there. When few people attend the games, it feels like you're at an amateur event, it feels as though it lacks importance. You have to get more people to go to games! Here's how: You MUST target the youth!! I know that NBL teams run basketball clinics which is good, but that only reaches a certain number of kids, many of whom still may not ask their parents to take them to a game. If you want to reach a high number of kids have a youth day (the Toronto Marlies do this). Day games, starting roughly at noon or 1:00 at the latest. You have an afternoon game. You connect with teachers early in the season announcing the day and offer tickets at a discount and they will make them a school wide event, getting most of their school to attend, (a class trip) get enough schools to do that and you've got a packed house for that one day, but more importantly, you have over 1000 kids telling their parents how much fun they had at the game and asking mom and dad to take them. Also, I'm quite sure that the league doesn't have a ton of money, but you need to give the appearance of being a major league. The "programs" we received on game night were free, but they looked very amateur, there might have been 3 pages listing player names and that was it. A high school could've produced something better. Remember, you want to look like a real pro league, so if you're going to make a program, make it look like a good one, and charge a toonie for it instead of giving it our for free. I saw that you were giving out pizzas the night I was there, but I think that's a waste. You should really give out Mississauga Power t-shirts and other memorabilia, that way when your fans wear the items, they're practically advertising for you. That being stated, you need to adverstise, few people know about the NBL. Billboards, bus shelters, newspapers, (not just in the Mississauga news but in the Star too). Whatever message you bring to the league owner's meetings, include this message, "You need to think big and appear like a major league, otherwise you'll be ignored and fail" Think big!!
