    Expédition de la rythmobile

Excellent spectacle éducatif sur l'apprentissage de la différence entre ce que sont les sons et le rythme. Très agréable.

    Great concert for kids

by Mags on 2022-04-27National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Fun concert. At times a bit too much dialogue for younger children but the rhythm sequences caught their attention, especially when there were opportunities for audience participation. Just the right length of time for a 4 year old but the adults really enjoyed it as well

    Underwhelming

by ER on 2022-03-09National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The auditorium was nice and that’s about all I can say. The “play” was not engaging for children and I was honestly surprised it got through as a selection for the NAC. Not a single child around us was interested or watching!! People were leaving. We stuck it out but we would have loved to see more props, better storyline, shorter songs…

    I would'nt recommend for toddlers

by Tia on 2022-03-09National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

We came to the show under the impression that there would be people dressed up as elephants or in costumes, but that was not the case. The actor used scarves and a towel to manipulate it as elephant ears. It was unimpressive and my daughter thought the actor was pretending to be a butterfly. As the actor told the story of Babar and words like "killed, hunter, died" were used in like the first 5 minutes of the show. There was no engagement with the children either. The pianist and actress were good, but it was definitely not what we were expecting and i did not find it appropriate for toddlers. It was not memorable.

    Junkyard Symphony

by JMG1989 on 2021-11-17National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

“A fusion of Junk percussion and traditional drums, Junkyard Symphony's Rhythm explosion is an awesome adventure into beat, tempo, timing and the various rhythmical styles of music. Add in some talented drumming and plenty of audience participation and what you get is a fantastic percussive performance!” After reading this I wasn’t expecting to watch 2 kids plays games on stage for 30 minutes. Aside from a percussion into at the start, there wasn’t much drumming throughout, let alone “adventure into beat, tempo, timing and the various rhythmical styles of music” The best part of the show came when we were told the show was over. The auditorium started to empty out, maybe 1/3 had left and the real percussion and circus acts started for 5-10 mins. More of this during the show is what we expected. The talent is there, the material was not.

    Would pass the next time

by Mom of 3 on 2021-11-17National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The venue was awesome, COVID protocols were also terrific. The show on the other hand - less awesome or terrific. Kids liked parts of it but we’re pretty disappointed. We were under the impression there would be way more music with homemade instruments. Instead we saw a middle age man balancing things on his face and having 2 kids come on stage to play some made up games for the opportunity to knock down garbage. For an hour. Would be a pass the next time and not recommended

To esoteric for kids-( my kids bored)

by M. D. on 2020-02-24National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

They liked the African music-(though some English explanation of where from in Africa and the name of instrument etc needed). The dance/ improve group with kids in it was not understandable-( I could hear people whispering-“ what is going on!”- kids really bored- sorry.) The 2 musicians with the Tec. Soundboards they loved❤️! They found them interesting and interactive- they let my kids alter their voices with their equip. at end of their show. They did not like the throat singers-( too weird for them)- the artists needed to explain what they were doing and what based on. They loved❤️ the stilts that made diff. noises when they walked in. They were disappointed with the ball room games- too controlled-( needed something with free play). I could see the great effort that went into the event- loved the balloons etc but I used to do community children’s theatre where kids loved it as was already pre tested on kids to make sure they liked it. You should try to do this next time ahead of time!

    Concert les bout'chous

by G. L. on 2020-02-22National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Freaked Them Out in a good way

Three very unique performances backstage. Kind of freaked out the two grandsons but thoroughly enjoyed.

    Un spectacle latino fascinant

by G. L. on 2020-02-05National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa
