Finding the box in which to place singer-songwriter Neko Case has proven perplexing for the Grammy Awards poobahs, and just about everyone else. She released her acclaimed seventh solo album in 2013 -- titled The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You -- and promptly earned a Grammy Award nomination in the Best Alternative Music Album category. Her preceding set, 2009's Middle Cyclone, earned the Alexandria, Va., native a nomination in the Best Contemporary Folk Album category. With her tendency to write folk-based songs with a bit of a loping beat, she's often refereed to as an Americana or alt-country artist, but her sound fits just as comfortably in the indie-rock singer-songwriter category. Further complicating matters is Case's longtime status as a member of Canadian indie supergroup The New Pornographers, with whom she's been known to belt out power-pop tunes.
Whatever you call her style, Case is a hit with fans and critics alike thanks to her poignant songwriting and her distinctive, smoky voice, which shines in concert. It's a combination that has fans flocking to buy tickets to see her on tour, where she's put the focus on the music while eschewing trappings like costume changes and fancy set designs.

I don’t know who picked that catterwalling ‘arteest’ but they need a review themselves. The opener sucked so large I had to go back down the street to The Old Nick pub for drinks, where the guy hosting the open stage was a far better act. Neko Case on the other had was as expected; great voice, great talent.
What a great show, Neko has an amazing voice and presence on stage. Great show, great energy, great music. Fantastic venue, sat in the balcony and had nice view and sound.
Neko's voice is majestic. Power and tenderness all wrapped up in humour and storytelling. Great band with her too.
Neko Case has a gorgeous voice, I could listen forever! The band musicians were exceptional also. So much love!!!
Yea a damn fine show. Loved the dodos as well. Neko was in fine form but didn't seem to realize that Burton Cummings has basically nothing to do with the theatre he donated money to anymore, although it carries his name. Would definitely see her again and next time bring more people with me.
Neko Case has such a wonderful haunting voice. She pays so much attention to all the details, the sounds her band create, the wonderful pairing of the backup singer. I wish people would turn off their phones throughout the whole show, including the opening act !!! The light emitted is very distracting !
Wasn't really familiar with Neko Case but they were recommended and I can see why. Great show!
The only reason I didn't give her a 5 was I wish she'd played longer! Not to say I felt shortchanged by the length of her set - I just could have listened for longer, and would have loved to hear more of her songs (she has such a great and expansive catalogue to choose from).
Neko sounded great even though she & the band were battling some cold & flu symptoms apparently.
