    below my expectations, disappointment

by IknowBeautyWhenIseeIt on 2010-12-23Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

Aleksander was great and the only star of the whole show. The show was a disappointment. The tickets are overpriced for what you get. The show had an amateur feel to it. If Aleksander was not in the show - it would've been a total waste of time and money. When he came on stage - he had presence, he took over the stage, he was incredible. His partner however didn't match, she had no spark, no charisma, her smile didn't do much, and she must be at the end of her stage career (-sorry! but it was very obvious). Overall I felt the show was more for chilren. For downtown Toronto - the level of performance (including syncronism - please!) should be much much higher. The music was recorded (no orchestra) and whatever devices they use must be terribly old because when the music comes on - first you hear the crackling sound of an old vinyl and then music comes on- it was kind of funny. But I mean - come on, this is downtown Toronto! The same about the "snow blowing" machine - it was too noisy - ruins the magic. Chaikovsky would've been mortified. On the positive note - the guy who played Grossmeister was good, and the girl who played Clara was lovely. I enjoyed watching them.

No live orchestra. The scene is way too small for a balet. Decorations were simply bad. Snoflakes, prince, and princes were good but everything else was at a school theatre level.

We found the tickets to be expensive, the performance was ok, a few good moments, we will not come again to view this show we would prefer to go to the National Ballet.

    Nutcracker was beautiful

by catgranny on 2010-12-21Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

We enjoyed the music so much, the dancing was wonderful and the children were so lovely to watch. We had great seats, excellent view, and the theatre was very courteous about handling latecomers.

    Very Disappointing

by Anonymous on 2010-12-21Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

I was hugely disappointed. I thought the choreography was poor and the sets amateurish. The 2 lead dancers were highly over rated and were constantly taking bows every few minutes that was totally uncalled for and taking away from some of the other dancers. The story line was very confusing or lacking I should say. The whole performance was amateurish

    Was not advertised properly

by achaplynskaya on 2010-12-21Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

The advertising is confusing. I believe the advertising is supposed to say 'Canadian Ballet Nutcracker with Kirov & Bolshoi Ballet 2 guest stars'. Canadian setting of the Nutcracker is very poor and I felt ripped off. Russian ballet school is different and very rich. If I knew it was Canadian Nutcracker, I would not have wasted the money. Very disappointing.
