below my expectations, disappointment
by IknowBeautyWhenIseeIt on 2010-12-23Winter Garden Theatre - TorontoAleksander was great and the only star of the whole show. The show was a disappointment. The tickets are overpriced for what you get. The show had an amateur feel to it. If Aleksander was not in the show - it would've been a total waste of time and money. When he came on stage - he had presence, he took over the stage, he was incredible. His partner however didn't match, she had no spark, no charisma, her smile didn't do much, and she must be at the end of her stage career (-sorry! but it was very obvious). Overall I felt the show was more for chilren. For downtown Toronto - the level of performance (including syncronism - please!) should be much much higher. The music was recorded (no orchestra) and whatever devices they use must be terribly old because when the music comes on - first you hear the crackling sound of an old vinyl and then music comes on- it was kind of funny. But I mean - come on, this is downtown Toronto! The same about the "snow blowing" machine - it was too noisy - ruins the magic. Chaikovsky would've been mortified. On the positive note - the guy who played Grossmeister was good, and the girl who played Clara was lovely. I enjoyed watching them.
