    Simply beautiful

by SufiLove on 2014-02-18Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

The concert was such a perfect break in the day to day routine of our lives. It transported me into a different world, allowing for calmness and reflection to come in and replace a hectic state of mind. The performers gave so much of themselves! I felt connected to them and very much enjoyed the music of Persia and Turkey coupled with the poetry of Rumi. It was simply beautiful.

    Heart-Expanding performance!

by TLTO on 2014-02-18Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

The performance was superb - my heart was stilled and calmed to a peaceful gentle lull in the first part performed by the Vashaan Ensemble. Then, in the second part, my heart was expanded enormously through the performance of Omar Faruk Tekbilek and his ensemble, particularly when he sang the song "Haydar Haydar"....he has an AMAZING voice and an expansive heart that I felt reached the depths of my heart and soul. Thank you for this. The only 2 setbacks were when one of the Chan Centre staff shone a bright flashlight in the dark during the performance down our row - it unfairly disrupted the beautiful energy created by the music. And several people either came or left during the performance. I've never been to a performance where the ushers allow people in or out during the actual performance. That was unprofessional and disturbing as well. The performers handled it very well and seemed to not even notice or affect their exuberant love and passion for sharing their music.
