Kassabian lacked the lustiness we've grown to expect from Carmen.
Superb cast, music, scenery, costumes, direction. No part of the show was sub-par.
I found Carmen without spirit...Good voice but still the stage was missing a true Carmen!
Personally I have expected a little bit more from bot NAC orchestra and Opera Lyra troupe. Orchestra was weak, sound unbalanced and was unable to fill the hall. The speech of some MC before opera started was unprofessional move. We came here to see opera, but not some clown joking around. Concerning opera itself. Some of the singers were just brilliants, for example Micaela has been definitely outstanding. Carmen and Jose were good enough. Personally i did not like how this opera was staged, for instance, Carmen behaving like a cheap whore.
having seen and listened to Carmen many many times this production by Opera Lyra ranked right up there. It was particularly well performed, well staged with excellent costumes and sets. It was also wonderful to hear that Opera Lyra is doing so well again and that all 3 performances of Carmen were sold out...quite an amazing accomplishment! Hopefully this will encourage Opera Lyra to stage many more wonderful performances.
Was a wonderful show. The principal artists, singing, scenery and costumes made you feel like living part of the story. Carmen and Don Jose were perfect!!
It was a fantastic performance with a wonderful cast.
Altogether a great night with some strong performances. the finale was a bit soft in relation to the rest of the opera.
The singing was more than acceptable, not outstanding; the costumes could be improved and the decor also, as for the general choreography of the whole presentation it needs some refinement.
Unfortunately, while the performance was good, the character of Carmen is so unsympathetic that one finds oneself anxiously awaiting her death!
