Michael Burgess - triumph of vocal sound at Weston
by Songbirdwannabe on 2011-01-29George Weston Recital Hall at the Toronto Centre for the Arts - TorontoMichael Burgess sang "au naturel" in the acoustically ideal Weston Recital Hall at the Toronto Centre for the Arts on Thursday evening January 27th, 2011. How many international vocal stars would dare to perform a concert without a sound system in their mid-60's - and deliver a spine tingling musical triumph?!?!? In addition, the programme chosen was perfect for Michael's voice - demonstrated his amazing range and power, in addition to the many moods and persona's that he is able to interpret with his exceptional acting skills. Finally, Michael delivered a story with the recital that informed the audience about the individual circumstance of each song, the exploration of the vocal/acting professional, the internal interpretation and communication of the human experience to the theatre audience and the richness of the sharing of these things among live people. This performance was a divine gift from a supremely talented artist. Michael also spoke as if he is ready to fully assume his most important role yet - that of "Eminence Gris" and "Mentor -in-Chief" to the next generation of talented theatrical/musical Canadians.
