    Amazing music...disappointing sound

by Winnipegmusicfan on 2013-06-23Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band was amazing talent. The trumpet player was great, the horn players were enthusiastic and every musician was really top notch. The voices were so perfect for their sound we really enjoyed the whole event. The problem was how the music was being mixed. Even the band's creative director was annoyed with the way the microphones were set up and being mixed. This put a damper on the concert frankly. Certainly the band was well worth the money but for that kind of money the sound mix should be well done. For that reason, we left feeling cheated. That said, we would go see them again.

Preservation hall jazz band what a treat

by Lmann on 2013-06-22Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

It was the first time I had heard them. What a concert! Hated for them to stop. Now I want to go to New Orleans and hear them at the hall! Came home and downloaded their music on iTunes They all play with such energy and pure love of their craft. They wrap you up in their energy. I never sat still in my chair for the entire show

    Just what you needed!

by oldgirl on 2013-06-22Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

The music was just what I was needing. This band are so energetic, are fabulous muscians and performers and they kept the evening hopping. Even the slower songs were filled with internal rhythms and material to keep you stimulated. I came out of there totally pumped to go see them someday in New Orleans. The opening act were very chaotic, the lead guy kept rambling on with stories, you couldn't hear a lot of what he said, and while a lot of their music and instruments fit togehter, they had this Kenny G guy that took it to a whole new level of dentist chair music! I was glad to see them go. This event was on a night where we received a record rainfall during the event, and since the Burt isn't great for air conditioning, they had doors open. The fresh air would have been very welcome, but I couldn't get over how many "grown ups" (people over 50) who were smoking their brains out outside. All that noxious gas then came inside and as we left, I felt like I needed a shower. Back to the Preservation Hall band- simply amazing. All of them!!!
