About

PUBLIC ENEMY IN CONCERT:

Hip hop pioneers and modern day rap legends Public Enemy are still bringing the noise, nearly three decades after establishing themselves as "Public Enemy No. 1" with their 1987 debut single. Flavor Flav and crew had game then and they got game now, keeping classic rap alive as they continue to 'scream vocal javelins' at the right enemies and innovate on the one's and two's. Following their 2013 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Public Enemy will "Fight the Power" on their 2014 tour dates, including a highly anticipated appearance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Where would the rap game be without the power and profundity of Long Island's Public Enemy? Formed in the early '80s by MC Chuck D and his irascible hype-man Flavor Flav, the group set out to add a political message to the aggressive style of hip hop made famous by Run DMC. Joined by MC Professor Griff and DJ Terminator X, Public Enemy ascended to astronomical heights with 1988 sophomore album It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. The record, anchored by the single "Don't Believe the Hype" became the first hip hop album to gain mainstream recognition, landing at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The rest is history.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Hands down top 3 hip hop shows I have ever seen! AWESOME!"

"Excellent concert! High energy and Public Enemy KILLED IT!

"That was a great show to be able to watch, I love that hip hop is alive and well...Chuck D is an amazing MC, the way he hosted the show and showed the local talent so much love was one of the best feeling I got this year at a show."

    Cold medina!

Everything an old-skooler like me would want from PE. Chuck ran a power move and Flav brought the flavour! All the tracks I needed to hear. Would have loved a few more from Yo!, but I couldn't have ask them to give more. The boys still got!

    WOW!

Great show - stellar act! First time seeing Public Enemy live and I would definitely go again. Can't believe I paid less than $30 a ticket and got this kind of performance - fun show, lots of energy by a group that clearly still loves what they do.

Disappointed that it took PE almost 3 hours to hit the stage and the opening acts were terrible, but once PE hit the stage all was forgotten. Amazing energy!

    total waste of money

by morsel on 2010-06-06The Garrick Centre - Winnipeg

whole experience sucked. Warm up acts were bad. The venue was like a public sauna. Public Enemy started 3.5 hours late. Sound sucked. Saw 3 songs and left early because it was too painful to sit through any more. Total waste of money. They should have offered refunds to everyone. I'd been embarassed to promote this and charge for this experience.

    Awesomeness Personified

Great concert, I waited 20 years to see them. Thank you whiskey so much for making my dreams come true. The only thing that sucked was they didnt stick around for autographs or phot sessions like they did in Edmonton. P.E. put on great show over 2 hours and they worked hard.

P.E. is still in full effect, brotha!!!

I can't believe that after almost 25 years, Public Enemy can still rock a show like that. They've been one of my all time favorites for years and I was shocked that they were still touring, especially in Canada since Flavor Flav has had trouble crossing the border in the past. I thought that $70 for a show at the Commodore was on the expensive side but once I saw the show, I told a friend of mine that I would have easily paid $100 or maybe more. I've seen arena shows that weren't even half the energy of this. PLEASE COME BACK TO VANCOUVER SOON!!!

    P.E.

by ronew on 2010-05-29Whiskey - Calgary

I was grateful to finally see these older artists and I had already decided that after 20 years of playing these songs I would take what I was served. I saw the SET LIST so I was not as disappointed as some were. P.E. did not play : Night of theLliving Baseheads, did not play :She Watch Channel Zero ,did not play :Brothers Gonna Work it out,did not play: My Uzi Weighs a Ton, did not play most of the songs that were expected . I wisely had no high expectations. No, they did not play that song they did with ANTHRAX. TERMINATER X did not play.

    Believe the HYPE!!

by Hanya on 2010-05-28Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

This was easily the best hip hop show I have been to. Seeing living legends like P.E. in one of my favorite live venues on the planet made for an unforgettable experience. The aging Chuck and Flav still got it and with the live band just blew my mind. That guitar player was SICK during his solo! All in all an amazing show and I'm glad I saw them before father time steps in.
