About

AT THE DAWN OF A NEW CENTURY, everything is changing... and anything is possible. Direct from a sold-out extended run at the Kennedy Center, RAGTIME The Musical returns to Broadway in an acclaimed new production that’s as ravishing as it is relevant. Set in a volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-century New York, RAGTIME weaves together three distinctly American tales -- that of a stifled suburban mother, an inventive Jewish immigrant, and a daring young Harlem musician -- united by their courage, compassion and belief in the promise of the future. Their compelling stories intertwine to form a rich tapestry of hopes and dreams, struggles and triumphs, rhythm and rhyme, set to an epic, Tony Award®-winning score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens. A colossal stage show based on the classic E. L. Doctorow novel, RAGTIME also features a Tony Award-winning book by Terrence McNally, direction and choreography by Marcia Milgrom Dodge, and a vibrant cast.

    Ragtime was great!

by johalfnote on 2009-11-16Neil Simon Theatre - New York

This revival of Ragtime focused more on the music and the story of Mother and Tateh this time around. The crowd was crazy for Ragtime on Saturday night November 14th, which was the last night of previews before opening the following evening. The original run of the show included over-the-top sets and fireworks, the sets were in the vain of recent revivals of Sondheim shows done in a spase way, but were quite effective. There were no big names in this production, but the cast was very good. The music is haunting and filled with several ballads that made many in the audience cry. The story is epic and an effective retelling of the award winning novel.
