Listening to music on period instruments with period tuning was new and very enjoyable. Similarly, the ambiance of the church (with the added touch of roof beams creaking because of the high wind) made it all seem like a trip back to a time when there was more time for important things.

Recommended for a Classical Music Lover

by JesseB on 2011-02-15Red Deer College Arts Centre - Studio A - Red Deer

Eastern Romance was a well organized and competant performance of classical music. Originally meant to be a short performance, some Beethovan was added to the beginning to lengthen the show much to the delight of Beethovan lovers such as myself. Even with the last minute addition of more music the length of the show was short compared to normal duo and quintet performances. Not a bad thing considering that it was an afternoon performance full of more restless kids then one would expect. The performance itself was well exectuted. Although the more passionate and animated violin playing seemed to overpower the piano through most of the performance. Technical issues with the lighting systems were a moderate annoyance. I would certainly recommend this performance, especially to a classical beginner.

We found the concert very enjoyable. The music was lovely, and the orchestra and pianist were excellent! We would definitely recommend this programme and will go see it again when it comes to the Winspear in Edmonton. Nice to see local talent of this caliber.

It was impossible to sit still!

by Designer on 2010-01-27Red Deer College Arts Centre - Red Deer

I love the Strauss waltz's so this was a must see concert for me. My husband had been wanting to experience the Symphony as well so it was an easy decision to attend the Dances concert. As expected, we both thoroughly enjoyed the orchestra and the music director was quite the entertainer himself! I appreciated the short histories he shared before the performances. The music was absolutely wonderful and the only thing that could have improved it would be to have costumed Viennese dancers! Bravo!

A Baroque Christmas did not feel festive

by Dancemom70 on 2009-12-07Gaetz United Church - Red Deer

While the music was wonderful and the singers were extremely talented, we went to this event hoping that it would be as festive feeling as the Christmas Symphony last year. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy this event as much as the one last year. Although I enjoyed talent and hard work that went into this production, and I realize that these pieces played may have been Christmas favorites centuries ago, it was just not what I had expected or hoped to experience. The voice scapes were also a bit too operatic for my liking. I truly hope that next year the Red Deer Symphony will try and have a more festive tone to it for those of us who look forward to getting into the Christmas Spirit.

RDSO chamber series is well worth the price of admission. We are very lucky to have such a talented group in this town.

    Brahms and Beethoven was beautiful!

Another wonderful performance by the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra. We are so fortunate to have such high caliber musicians right here in Central Alberta. Great stage presence and command by the guest musicians. And of course, Claude was at his best. What a thrill it is to sing O Canada with the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra.
