Starr Studded Cast Plays Beaucoups of Hits

    by bayoubunny66 on 2011-05-26Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The Hart Foundation hosted this fundraiser so there were rather a lot of gray-haired wealthy people in attendance who may not have seen a rock concert since Ringo was in his former band ("Rory Storm and the Hurricanes" as the mop-top likes to say.) This gave the event a sort of dignified ambience that was almost reverential and seemed quite appropriate given the pedigrees of the performers. The band, a loose assemblage of friends and neighbours of Ringo including Edgar Winters and Rick Derringer, gave it their all and seemed to be excited to be once again before an enthusiastic crowd. The members of the group took it in turns to front the group for a song from way back when and then Ringo would return to centre stage to belt out classics from both his Beatles catalog, which is beginning to yellow, and his solo years. I thought his voice, which never was too good, was better than ever and his humour, as corny as ever, made him agelessly lovable. It was a seamless, well-rehearsed show. They have the chord changes down well after these many years. Levon Helm, Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton and many others have been with him on previous tours after their other projects have wrapped. I look forward to seeing if Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga are part of the next All-Starr Band tour.
