Italian balladeer Rita Pavone rose to success in the '60s with a string of lovelorn singles and starring roles in a number of cult film classics. With her youthful pixie cut, powerful set of pipes, and emotive demeanor, Pavone became a familiar presence on talk and variety shows around the world, and five decades later she's lost none of her panache. BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Turin, Italy, Pavone got her first break in 1962 when she won Italy's Festival degli Sconosciuti ("Festival of the Unknowns") at just age 16. She released her self-titled debut album the following year, becoming a national sensation with hit singles "La Partita di Pallone" and "Heart," both of which sold more than a million copies. By 1964, her fame had extended overseas with English-language single "Remember Me," a hit in both the US and Canada. She continued to enjoy tremendous success throughout the decade, appearing regularly on the Ed Sullivan show and sharing the stage with such luminaries as Diana Ross, Ella Fitzgerald, and Duke Ellington. Still performing more than five decades after her debut, Pavone continues to display the same flair and class that made her a star, setting high expectations for her upcoming tour dates.
