Roberto Carlos Live in Concert

Brazilian pop-rock trailblazer Roberto Carlos is known to many as "the King of Latin Music." With a career spanning more than half a century, Carlos has sold more than 140 million albums globally and is considered one of the most influential pop artists in Brazil and the world. With the help of co-writer and frequent collaborator Erasmo Carlos, Roberto Carlos has written more than three dozen Top 10-charting singles.

Born to a lower middle-class family in 1941, Carlos began playing the guitar and piano as a child. At just 9 years old, he performed for the first time at a children's show broadcast by Rádio Cachoeiro, where he won first prize and became a regular performer.

As a teenager, Carlos moved to Rio de Janeiro and formed a band originally called the Snacks, which was later renamed the Sputniks. In the late '50s, Carlos went solo and performed bossa nova in the style of Brazilian singer João Gilberto. When his first full-length album, 1961's Louco Por Você (Crazy for You), failed to achieve commercial success, Carlos switched back to rock music.

As a pop/rock musician, Carlos drew influence from then-popular American and British acts such as Little Richard, Bill Haley, Elvis Presley, and The Beatles. He eventually became the face of "Jovem Guarda" (Young Guard), which started as a TV show hosted by Carlos but eventually became a catchphrase for a Brazilian musical movement influenced by the Western midcentury rock and roll wave. Carlos' 1964 album, É Proibido Fumar, especially exemplified this upbeat sound and style, also known in Brazil as iê-iê-iê ("yeah-yeah-yeah").

In the late '60s, Carlos began to pivot his artistry to specialize more in love songs. Along with close collaborator Erasmo Carlos, Roberto Carlos penned now-famous hits such as "Detalhes," "Sua Estupidez," "Jesus Cristo," and "Debaixo dos Caracóis dos Seus Cabelos," earning him Grammy accolades and top chart placements in Latin America. Carlos' love songs became especially popular in neighboring Argentina, and by the '70s, he had become the best-selling Brazilian musician in history.

In 1988, Carlos won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Performance, plus several Latin Grammys in the early 2000s. In 2015, the Latin Recording Academy honored him with the prestigious Person of the Year award. In 2009, Carlos celebrated his 50th anniversary as a performer, touring through North and South America to honor the achievement alongside fans. More recently, Carlos released his 2018 Spanish-language album Amor Sin Límite, which featured duets with Jennifer Lopez ("Llegaste") and Alejandro Sanz ("Esa Mujer").

    An Intimate Evening

by Chelseastar on 2014-10-06Powerade Centre - Brampton

Roberto Carlos is an accomplished singer/songwriter from Brazil who did not disappoint his ecstatic fans. So excited to see him once again in our part of the world. His band got things started by playing a melody of his hits and then he walked on to the stage to a standing ovation. Magical!! A romantic at heart, there were times where it seemed he was singing for and directly at only you. It felt as if you were seated across from him, perhaps at home, as he explained the songs origins and why he wrote them at the time. Both men and women were singing along and shouting out for their favourites. A very spiritual person, he ended his show with his song called "Jesus Cristo"(Jesus Christ). Everyone was on their feet singing and clapping along. At the end of the song, the band kept playing and the crowd kept singing as he handed out roses to the audience. He then left the stage but came back for an encore. Truly a humble and gracious man. Without hesitation, I would highly recommend this show!

Great show I was it would have specified the show start time. Also more food or vendors around the arena. Roberto was amazing, but I also think they should put a disclosure that he sings mainly in Portuguese . Or have a 50/50 shoe

    Good

by LizzieBR on 2014-10-01Powerade Centre - Brampton

Unfortunately we had to wait 2 hours before the concert started. That took away some of the magic. I think estimate time for starting should be announced before hand so you can plan ahead what is best for you. Roberto Carlos and the Orchestra was amazing! The lights setting was spectacularly stunning!

    Show was awesome! Organization terrible!

by BrazilianLady on 2014-10-01Powerade Centre - Brampton

The show was amazing as I expected but the organization was real bad. The show was advertised to start at 8 in the website, then it changed to 7. In the end everybody was there at 7 and the doors opened at this time. And then we discovered that the show would start at 8:30! Where did this time come from??? And the singer was late and it started at 9 pm when I (and many others) believed it would start at 7! The show itself was incredible. Great production.

We meaning my husband and I had a great time, we were very close to the front and comfortable . The food however was really hard to get too did not like how you one area and picked up in another only one line up for food, needed more areas for food, snacks, drinks etc. There were no sales for CD's.
