Rock the Shores was great !!!

by Murchy on 2018-07-18West Shore Parks & Recreation Lower Field - Victoria

I was very impressed with the new RESERVED seating at RTS this year. Being the first year they had tried this it had a few kinks but all in all made my experience very pleasurable. I found having to hike across the field to use the washroom rather inconvenient and thought they could have more washroom access scattered around but there could be a reason I'm unaware of why they are where they are. I was also really happy with the variety of food trucks.- it was great to be able to go grab food when you wanted to and not stand in a big hour long line up like I have in past years attending RTS. In summary I had a great time - even the weather co-operated. No thunder or lightening but to be honest that was the best when the Hip were on stage that night.

    Matt Good made the show

by downtownbrown on 2013-07-23Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre - Victoria

All bands were fantastic. I went to see Matt Good and I wish he had a longer set. He was cut off early which was super disappointing. Acres of Lions, Jimmy Eat World, 54/40, Sheepdogs, Matt Good and City and Colour all played amazing! Loved the line up, although I would have had Matt Good as the headliner.

    Rock the Shores of Victoria

by Elcamino on 2013-07-19Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre - Victoria

It was scorching hot and the line to the bathrooms was like the line to Noah's Arc, but the opportunity of sitting in the sun and listening to great music was pretty great. FYI, if you do visit the lovely shores of Victoria, I highly suggest purchasing a hat or an umbrella, because the seagulls rule that town with a hard fist, and they will attack you from the air multiple times.

    rock the shores was greaaaaat!

by tdotk on 2013-07-18Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre - Victoria

Sunday's rock the shores was amazing! The only critique I have is that the bike check line up after the show was insane! I waited 40 minutes to get my bike out and still had to get home after that! Also I would suggest having someone (security or volunteers) by the washrooms, there was a lot of issues with line cutting and no one to really enforce the lines. other than that I had a fantastic time all other line ups whizzed by and the bands were AMAZING! can't wait for RTS2014!!

    Great bands, great festival!

by MatthewR on 2013-07-18Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre - Victoria

Concerts were stellar, sound was great and the band selection was definitely a highlight. Weezer did not disappoint. The only downside was getting into the event. There were lengthy lineups on both days but on day 1 it was extremely disorganized and not enough security/foresight to avoid linehopping folks that lack basic human consideration. It was bad enough that I missed the entire first two bands despite coming long before the first band was set to start.

    good lineup, but logistical issues

by roguepixel on 2013-07-18Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre - Victoria

I went to both days of this festival. I enjoyed the bands on both days, but the lineups on Saturday kinda wrecked the vibe. I missed Jimmy Eat World playing because of having to wait in line for 2 hours to get inside the venue. Also the sound quality wasn't as good as it could have been, they needed more speakers, and the mixing for most bands wasn't good. There were more food trucks this year, lots of good options there. The beer garden was full all day Saturday so I couldn't get in. Sunday was much better for logistics, they got everyone inside the venue faster with more people working security, and the beer garden had better flow as well. I've been to lots of music festivals so maybe I'm a bit jaded, but I won't go to this one next year unless they have a really amazing headliner.

    Rock the Shores, Summer Incarnate

by BrandNewKey on 2013-07-18Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre - Victoria

Sunshine and tons of rock and roll!! Been waiting to see Awolnation for ages and it was totally fulfilling. An earnest band with a ton of energy. Must see them again. Listened to Mother Mother from afar grabbing great food from vendors and enjoyed their cover of Nirvana's In Bloom. Next, Sam Roberts BLEW me away. I work in radio and have heard his songs many many times, but live -- well this was the real thing. Incredible talent, we're lucky to say he's Canadian. Finally Weezer blew the crowd into a frenzy....or the crowd blew up some smoke in a frenzy to relive their wilder days with the band that provided the soundtrack. Enjoyed their show and forgot how many fun tunes they had. Left a bit early and missed "Say It Isn't So" to beat the crowd of 300 or so picking up bikes to ride home after the show on an amazing quintessential summer night. It's going to be a yearly summer tradition.

Just amazing, Weezer was the best. Wish Matthew Good had a longer set but what can you do.

Bands were great - beer gardens were crowded

by Maddy330 on 2013-07-17Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre - Victoria

I enjoyed myself and the music was great. I really like the venue but felt that the lineups were a bit long. I would recommend a bigger beer garden for next year so that it takes under 2 hours to get in.

Rock the Shores 2013 was very nearly perfect

by KCaccidental on 2013-07-17Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre - Victoria

With a wicked awesome lineup, and a great price for tickets, AND a convenient location in central Colwood, Rock the Shores' 2nd festival was WICKED. It was so much fun. A few complaints are the lineups on the first day. Doors were at 1pm, we arrived at 1:10 and stood in line for two hours before getting in. Luckily, by the second day they managed to correct this. Also, the food was super ultra expensive, but that's fairly typical for festivals.
