About

Roxette is a pop-rock duo hailing from Sweden, with Marie Fredriksson on vocals and Per Gessle on guitar and supporting vocals. Before Roxette, both Fredriksson and Gessle had established musical careers in their home country, until joining to record their first Swedish hit single,” Neverending Love.”
From the band's inception in 1986, they achieved international acclaim in the late ‘80s, thanks to Look Sharp!, their commercial breakthrough album. They have sold over 60 million records globally and received gold and platinum awards for their Joyride and Look Sharp! albums. Their greatest hits album was Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus, which was followed by a hiatus until 1999, when Have a Nice Day was released, followed by Room Service in 2001. After a 10-year break, Charm School was released in 2011, followed by Travelling in 2012.
Roxette have toured globally, with their 1991 worldwide tour going out to over 1.5 million fans across a challenging schedule of 107 concerts. They have also toured extensively throughout Europe and Latin America, where they have won Platinum awards, and featured at the Night of the Proms, as well as a number of international concerts. They have also received multiple awards, including the Grammys, MTV, Rock Music Awards and more. “Listen to Your Heart” and “It Must Have Been Love” have received BMI awards for notching up over four million plays on the radio.
They are notable for breaking the tricky US market almost by accident, when an American student bought a copy of Look Sharp! home in 1988 and passed it to a local radio station. Popular reception saw Roxette's music rapidly spread to other radio stations, and marked the start of their success on the international market. EMI released The Look in the US in 1989 and it went straight to No. 1 in the American charts, later topping the music charts in 25 countries. Other notable releases include Dressed for Success, Dangerous in 1989, and the hit “It Must Have Been Love,” which featured on the film Pretty Woman and was the band's most successful release, topping the charts globally and going platinum three times. Later releases include Crash! Boom! Bang! in 1994 and Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus in 1995. Have a Nice Day was released in 1999.

Roxette could of been better, glass tiger good.

    by Tim0712 on 2012-10-07ScotiaBank Saddledome - Calgary

Roxette was ok, but glass tiger i think did a better job like another user said, her voice wasn't as crisp, kind of a smokers voice sort of, but the guy that was with her sounded just like on the songs. Would i go again? No, prob not, just because I'm not a huge fan of them and wasn't as good as the studio albums the girl singers voice. ( She did have a brain tumor so could of affected her voice so I'm not going to say she didn't know what she was doing but it wasn't that bad that's why its recommend for people that like Roxette). Far as the ticket goes, could of been less but they didn't tour for alongtime. Glass Tiger played well, enjoyed it and sounded good.

Roxette played but Glass Tiger stole the show

by Meddyman on 2012-10-01Saddledome - Calgary

They were ok, not the show I was hoping for though. They kinda slowed everything down and bluesyed it up. (Is that a word?) Not a commanding stage presence and there were a couple spots when the silence was almost awkward. The band kinda left Marie (the blonde) out to hang by herself. They took the background while she finished the last line. We all applauded and then she just stood there, no “hey how ya doing”…..just silence. Kinda unfortunate. In her defense, she did recover from a brain tumor so it is a miracle she is back on stage at all. Some reviews said she has trouble hitting the high notes……. not. They sound guys had her voice mixed a little bassy, not the crisp high tones we hear on the records, well she just went up a couple notches to overcome the sound board to get there, still a really beautiful voice. Per (the guy) still looks and sounds like 25 years ago…..spot on. 7 on stage total. The 2 above, another girl as a background singer then the rest of the band…… bass, drums, keyboard and lead guitar. The lead guitar guy reminded me of animal from the muppets. When he got his shot here and there he went nuts! A Ted Nugent throwback!! Nice lights and a pretty cool backdrop that was kinda mesmerizing. Lots of sing alongs…….Calgary crowd was about 10K and most were happy to play sing along. Not something I like, I do that behind the steering wheel and pay to hear them sing. Know what I mean? They played most of the good ol tunes and a few new ones in a short 90 minute set, one encore. The real unexpected surprise was Glass Tiger who opened. The first 30 seconds they had a mic sound level issue then full speed ahead. Very tight and crisp, vocals somehow are still spot on. In my opinion they actually stole the show. Only a 40 minute set but they gave us that warm fuzzy feeling that we were all part of something wonderful. Ya know when they feed off the crowd energy and it seems to go back and forth and builds and builds. Yeah, one of those. Glass Tiger 9.5 out of 10 Roxette 8.5 out of 10 Actually 7.5 but just because Marie is able to be there after her troubles, that alone gets a point. Worth the 75 bucks? Only because I have wanted to see them for 20 plus years, Because Marie is still able to perform, Because Glass Tiger was so damm good Yes, but just barely

    Perfect Day

by Marge on 2012-09-22MTS Centre - Winnipeg

The concert was really fantastic. Both Glass Tiger and Roxette regaled the audience with all of their best material. They (all) sounded great. Also I was happy to find t-shirts were a reasonable price, which meant I could get one from each band.

It was fantastic to be able to see Roxette in concert! I have loved their music since I was very young and I am thankful to have gotten the opportunity to be able to see them live now. Especially to hear the old favorites. I am also thankful for the great price and great seats! Glass Tiger was awesome! I didn't realize how many songs of theirs I knew. The sound was perfect- not too loud.

    Roxette - they are amazing!

by pickylady on 2012-09-17Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Appreciated the respect given to the crowd, the effort to cover almost 2 hours of singing with no break, but most of all appreciated the list of songs covered, very rare nowadays to go over the oldies instead of promoting the newest album, amazing performance! THANK YOU!
