    Regretably Ruthless

by voidczech on 2009-11-08Toronto Centre For The Arts - Toronto

This show was the worst that I've seen in a long time... maybe worse than highschool productions I saw 20 years back. The storyline was obvious. The actors were poor, as was singing (with the exception of Mrs. Denmark). Some of the jokes were funny but not overly. In short, although we had front row tickets it was all we could do to stay until intermission, at which point we left.

Too amature for such a fun script

by TIMI on 2009-10-30Toronto Centre For The Arts - Toronto

This show could be an end to end riot but isn't. It's a show about Diva's to the extreme but when you have a man playing the lead Diva in drag you've set the tone but sadly the fellow plays it more like a drag queen than a Diva. Add to that the fact, the director didn't really grasp the style of this show much in the way most productions of the Boyfriend are directed wrongly. All the cast Diva's spoke and played in the same style which made it too much. Robbing the guy. Diva's are individuals and there was a lot of style options. It's a show about talent but the cast was out of tune and off key most of the time. Two piano's was one too many. Looking at this show I think it would hit its hight if it were an all adult male cast in drag. Showcase Diva styles such as Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Talulla Bankheads and the child star should be Liza in wig and full Liza make-up. Then the campery would be a scream the competition would have bite and acidity. The Hardware store's daughter should be 200 lbs with no talent at all beyond free lumber and fabric. This show screams for innovation and artistic flair but it dosn't go there. A cute night out for $30.00 but don't expect too much. Sorry...everyone worked so hard.
