    St. Carmen of the Main

by Cassady999 on 2011-04-04National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I thought this was an excellent play. I am not a regular attendee of such events but I thought that as someone who was just a child when this play was first written in the 70's I was able to better understand the context of the Quebec goal of independence while at the same time it could be interpreted in view of any people's struggle for equality across the globe today. The acting was great, and specifically the role of Gloria was played to perfection. Thanks for a great evening. Cassady

    St. Carmen of the Main

by Anonymous on 2011-04-04National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I attend GCTC, Goya Theatre, The Gladstone, Orpheus, Ottawa Little Theatre, Fringe Festival, and English NAC theatre. Just came back from seeing four shows in Fort Myers Florida in March. St. Carmen, was the worst production I've attended in the last ten years, at least. A total time waster, meaningless in all respects, absolute drivel, jejeune would perhaps best describe it. Enough, enough, just garbage. regardz Russ in Ottawa

    Yawn worthy

by Viana on 2011-03-27National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I'm supportive of the artistic merit here; based on the Greek tragedy form and all that. I would also applaud some very good performances - "Carmen" in particular - but the play was boring! Carmen whined too much about her inability to effect the change she desired. The chorus, though interesting in their variety and costuming, were too monotone. I suspect that was the intention, but it contributed to an hour and a half of sleep inducing disappointment. I will admit that I lack formal theatrical training (bet you couldn't tell!) but I was not entertained by this play. As an expat Montrealer I so wanted to be!
