    Captivating

by stoneycanuk on 2015-04-28Burlington Performing Arts Centre - Burlington

Sarah is a very talented entertainer, vocalist, composer, pianist and artist! Her style has influences of Kate Bush, Edith Piaf and Eartha Kit delivered with humour and panache! Her quartet/quintette backing band included an amazing drummer. Great acoustics. Lighting simple but effective. Don't miss the opportunity to see Sarah. Alternatively, check out her album "Land & Sea".

    way too many instruments

by Anonymous on 2014-11-11Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

I enjoyed the female vocalist a lot. She has a wonderful voice. The orchestra was great but too much for the jazz effect in a lot of the pieces. The trio was good on their own but the orchestra overtook the jazz effect . Mike voice is weak and the least of his talents.

Slean should be seen and heard.

by Caledon2 on 2013-05-13Molson Canadian Studio at Hamilton Place - Hamilton

Sarah Slean's concert was excellent. She is an unusual performer with her own voice both vocally and in her writing, which is thoughtful, insightful and unique. Loved the (almost) all girl orchestra too!

    Sarah Slean a class act

by naps on 2013-05-13Molson Canadian Studio at Hamilton Place - Hamilton

Sarah has a strong, very natural voice which sounds better live....and with the accompanying orchestra the performance was spectacular. The opening act Ian Kelly was another great addition to the night. He was an instant crowd please with his innocent, joking quality and incredible musical ability and strong song writing.

    Sarah Slean stole my heart

by thunderverna on 2013-03-12RIO Theatre on BROADWAY - Vancouver

I've wanted to see Sarah Slean for years and somehow never made it... what a joy it was to finally see her in person. opening act was great, Ian Kelly reminds me a bit of Dave Loggins vocally.. and very charming, Quite punctually Sarah hit the stage (I missed her entrance, I was getting popcorn cos concerts NEVER start on time....) Sarah's stage persona is a bit eccentric, a Marilyn-voiced and eerily brilliant 30s cabaret singer (you had to be there!!) . Having listened to her music for years I knew she had an unusual style and was lyrically precise, but I was blown away by the quality of her performance. If you check the set list, you will see that the show was composed largely of material from the "Sea" component of "Land and Sea".. these songs are sweeping and magical and LARGE, and the fact that they were so entrancing speaks volumes for the talents of not only Sarah Slean, but her very talented musicians (performing with strings "how will I ever be able to tour with a band again?" she asked the audience) The back screen was projected with images, chiefly of Newfoundland, I think, where Sarah composed much of "Sea", and where Devil and the Dove video was filmed. It was quite beautiful but my eyes were riveted on Sarah... I won't break down the set list and review song by song - if you are a fan of Sarah, you will know what they sound like - suffice it to say that I sat transfixed in the second row ... And to tell you that I am still 'conducting' Napoleon as I walk around town!!! And the asides she made to the audience; I don't think I have ever LAUGHED so much at a concert (and I have been going to concerts since Alice Cooper tickets cost $6!!!) - Sarah knows her material, knows her audience, and most of all knows herself, and can present her unique music and sense of humour in a package that will take your breath away and leave you with each song etched in your heart. This concert was a week ago and it is STILL taking my breath away. If you have the chance to see this hidden Canadian musical treasure, I urge you to take it... someday the rest of the world will discover her and we will lose the chance to see her in intimate venues like the Rio.

    breathtaking!!!

by Soupson on 2013-03-11West End Cultural Centre - Winnipeg

The music flowed like the waves of the sea, crashing on the rocks.... I could taste the salty air and feel the ebb and flow. Her voice is so effortless, the strings were so moving! Sarah Slean is an amazing performer with humour and a bit of eccentricity.
