Excellent performance but too short!
by Vaish on 2013-04-03George Weston Recital Hall at the Toronto Centre for the Arts - TorontoIt was a treat watching the two masters perform live on stage at the same time!! The concert started about half an hour late, due to various travel reasons for the masters. However, once they started, it was awsome. Pandit Shivkumar started with raag Jhinjhoti, and Zakir Hussain joined in with his magical fingers on tabla. The co-ordination between them was so good, they were totally tuned in to each other's rythems. This was more classical with the alaap and bandish and so on. Later, he played raag Pahadi, and it was more light, more hummable melodies that the public could relate to. They didnt perform after this one, felt a bit cheated here:( I felt basically it was too short a performance, they could have played another half an hour and the audience would have been happy...!
