    2013 Skate America in Detroit

by Timbertango2 on 2013-10-22Joe Louis Arena - Detroit

As usual the skating was phenomenal! Loved seeing the new programs so early in the year and watch their progress during the season. Davis and White and their team have created another MASTERPIECE for this season. I have a new respect and understanding for Detroit after spending 4 days in the downtown area. Loved the ability to get around via the People Mover - more large cities might look at this method of transportation. Fantastic food at all the restaurants. Friendly folks everywhere. The Joe Louis Arena was handy and well worn, but accommodating. Loved the extra Ladies washrooms they have installed above the food booth areas...no line-ups necessary. More info about the coaches, the music, the choreographers would have been nice to see on the Jumbotron - perhaps a little longer than the 10 seconds it was shown. Excellent timing for the events - an enjoyable length for each session. Appreciated not having to battle early morning traffic - and the Detroit Marathon was just a minor inconvenience for most of us - good to see the runners dedication. Hope you consider more events in Detroit. However, please YOU MUST CONSIDER CHOOSING ARENAs THAT HAVE HANDRAILS for negotiating the stairs. 80% of your audience is not functioning with good stair climbing ability. This is dangerous and not enjoyable for most of us......it is not possible to make extra trips up and down the stairs without inconveniencing those sitting on the aisle. 5 hours sitting in the same spot is not healthy either - would love to have walked the Concourse between events The price for the tickets was reasonable and the ability to choose good seats was something from the past!!!! Now, please explain where was the audience??? - more local attendees could have been brought in from the schools and churches to fill the seats - a chance of a lifetime for many to see the World's Best. Most folks in the area had NO IDEA WHAT SKATE AMERICA WAS --- and most would have loved the opportunity to attend if given the chance to fill seat in the arena after it was obvious the ticket sales were below par.
