SONiC BOOM 2010: Edmonton's Modern Rock Festival featuring Rise Against, Weezer, City and Colour, Bad Religion, Wintersleep and more!

Edmonton's Modern Rock SONiC 102.9 and The Union are pleased to announce the second edition of SONiC BOOM, featuring a world-class line-up of acts that will definitely satisfy fans of modern rock in the capital city and beyond. Once again taking place outdoors under the big blue Edmonton sky on the Labour Day long weekend - Saturday, September 4 - at Northlands Grounds, SONiC BOOM 2010 aims to surpass the exceptional reception that the 2009 outdoor event received from the local media, fans and the performers themselves.

"We are beyond excited to bring SONiC BOOM back for another year," said Dave Johnston, marketing director for The Union, producers of the festival. "Once again, we worked closely with SONiC 102.9 to make this a memorable day, but more importantly, we listened to the comments from attendees themselves, and it affected this year's event on all levels, from logistics to the line-up itself!"

The confirmed line-up for SONiC BOOM 2010 is led by punk rockers Rise Against, who have consistently enjoyed a phenomenal response from Edmonton audiences, thanks in part to the dedicated support that SONiC 102.9 has shown the band since their breakthrough hit, "Swing Life Away." In the years since, Rise Against have steadily become a global force with their uncompromising music, and are currently enjoying their greatest worldwide success to date with the chart-breaking 2009 album Appeal To Reason, featuring the killer singles "Re-Education (Through Labor)," "Hero of War" and "Savior."

SONiC BOOM will also welcome Weezer back to the Edmonton stage for the first time since 2002. Definitely one of the most enduring acts to emerge from the alt rock buzz bin of the 1990s, the band's smart songwriting and sharp hooks on songs like "Beverly Hills" and their recent hit "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To" have not only maintained their relevance in modern rock, but made them more popular with fans today than ever before.

The appearance of the Juno Award-winning City and Colour means a return to the SONiC BOOM stage by Dallas Green, who appeared last year with his kinetic band Alexisonfire. This time, however, Green will bring his other side to the fore, with elegant and heartfelt songs drawn from his acclaimed albums, Sometimes and Bring Me Your Love.

Few punk bands can lay a legitimate claim to longevity and relevance quite like Bad Religion. Celebrating their 30th anniversary this year, the Orange County, California pioneers have influenced thousands of bands and rocked millions around the world, and still remain fierce and unmatched in the studio and on stage. Not to rest on their laurels, they are currently recording a new album for their equally legendary label, Epitaph. 

SONiC BOOM also has a mission to elevate emerging Canadian acts, and certainly one of these has to be Juno Award winners Wintersleep. With a new album (New Inheritors) set for release in May - the follow-up to the breakout 2007 record Welcome To The Night Sky - this Halifax band have seen their music attract worldwide attention.  

Additions to the line-up of SONiC BOOM 2010 will be announced shortly. 

SONiC BOOM 2010 will again feature a licensed VIP area, with separate entrance, bar service, grassy lounge area and other amenities. The general admission area will be open to all ages, featuring an 18+ beer garden, vendor village and other attractions. 

Sonic Boom Express travel packages will also be available for purchase for out-of-town visitors, departing Calgary for Edmonton, and will include transport, hotel and tickets to the festival.
