    Best BOOM yet!

by Axel118 on 2014-12-02Edmonton Northlands Grounds - Edmonton

This was the best Sonic Boom yet. The three days made it amazing, as they got so many awesome bands to play and fill the time that I enjoyed myself from the first band Friday to Jack White melting my face on Sunday. I got to see bands I'd been waiting to see, such as The Airbourne Toxic Event, and got to see some awesome new bands such as Fitz and The Tantrums. So much fun!

Can't say it was worth it

by Anonymous on 2014-09-07Edmonton Northlands Grounds - Edmonton

The no re-entry ruined the entire weekend: If there's a band at the beginning and end of the day that you want to see that meant you had to stay there for over 10 hours which is brutally long and cost a fortune in food and beverages, bathrooms were nasty, and it was highly unlikely that you could find a place to sit for a rest.

Arctic monkeys and serena ryder killed it

All the bands were amazing and the atmosphere was serene and the sound was perfect but too loud at times.

The bands were fantastic and the event was very well organized. Only issue I had was with one security person banning me from the beer tent because my driver's license is being renewed so it was a paper one. I'm 48 obviously not underage. Booooooooo

Cabana's were a waste of money

by Sargasmo on 2014-09-04Edmonton Northlands Grounds - Edmonton

Overall I quite enjoyed the festival. It was a great lineup the whole weekend, there was a ton of variety of food, and everything seemed fairly well organized. The sound stage was way too close to the stage, however, which obviously obstructed views and made the crowd in front of it very, very tight. However I purchased a VIP cabana along with several friends, and it was a complete waste of money in most respects. It was nice having a place to leave our bags, jackets etc and having our own washrooms is always welcome. However the cabana location was actually 2-3 times as far away as the VIP beer gardens was. Further, there was no food service in the cabana area other than Northland's catering, which was expensive and boring. Also, the liquor service in the cabana area was an absolute farce. There was only ever 1 bartender, and it was obvious that none of the bartenders over the weekend had any experience doing it. The one on Saturday was boring doubles, for no apparent reason. I guess you can look at that as a bonus, at least until they reject the tickets you purchased on Saturday when you go to get a drink on Sunday. Somehow their incompetence justified essentially screwing their customers the next day. The most non-sensical aspect of the supposed "VIP Cabana" is that we were not allowed in to the regular VIP area. This made absolutely no sense to anyone, and I cannot think of logical reason why that would be. So again, the music festival itself was great and I only have one or two minor complaints, it was probably very close to a 5/5 experience. The VIP cabana's though were poorly thought out and we gained little by paying nearly double what the regular VIP's did.

    Meh

by Tyetye on 2014-09-04Edmonton Northlands Grounds - Edmonton

It was alright, the bands were good. But the event overall was a little dull. Not much to do in between bands that I went to see. Lots of empty space on the grounds. Security was a little overboard, I suppose it's better then not enough. Price was fair, for three days of shows but they could of had a few skateboard demos of magicians walking around.

Locked me out of the event the first day even after they said I could get back in, was too crowded and only had three or four bands everyone wanted to see. Overall a disappointing event. Went all three days.

    Sonic Boom

by Octane37 on 2014-09-03Edmonton Northlands Grounds - Edmonton

I have attended this event every year and it just keeps getting better! VIP tickets are worth every penny! Shorter line ups, if any, real bathrooms, a great picnic area with grass :) Special food vendors, etc. They gave the VIP side more room so we could get closer to the stage and I love that we have access to both sides. Excellent! Jack White played every great song he has and entertained us with his talent on guitar. Amazing!
