Yes, it was an expensive ticket that I purchesed. But I simply wanted to see and listen to Sonny with my naked eye and bear ears. Unbelievable to share a moment with Jazz lovers to enjoy his performance. A man who hardly walks straight across the stage plays his sax with such powerful and youthful energy. Such a joy to get inspired by his warm, passionate sprit of jazz. Thank you. I enjoyed it very very much.
I enjoyed the concert very much. I think the soundman was having some problems (especially in the beginning). I was a bit disappointed Sonny didn't do an encore but he may have been tired. I'm so glad I was able to see this jazz icon perform.
Amazing show! A historical figure of jazz! A couple of times he wasn't really giving great solo time to the rest of his guys, and the bass needed to be turned up, but otherwise a fantastic show.
This was an amazing performance by a legendary Jazz musician who has played with a whos/who of talented people. His band played for two hours to a very receptive crowd. I had tons of fun taking my dad to watch a 78 year old man play the saxophone like you wouldn't beleive!
The music and personality of Sonny Rollins are unequaled in this world! However, Rollins have honed his style in the venues of New York, seems a bit lost on the large cavernous auditorium stage. I would have gladly paid a higher ticket price for a more intimate setting to experience the magic of Rollins.
I thought this was a great show and a great venue.
This man is awesome! His passion for the "art" he creates on stage is contagious, and during his solos, I sometimes forgot I was part of a large audience. It was like he was playing for me. Sonny's band members are consummate performers who smile and nod as Sonny takes a melody and mixes it up for several minutes at a time. Their respect and affection for him is quite apparent and helps to create a sense of intimacy and connection between performers and audience. I was privileged to spend time with Sonny and his band - me and all of the other 1500 or so people in the auditorium!
The music was two hours of pure delight. We were in the cheapest seats but the acoustics in the Orpheum are superb. A wonderful way to start the Jazz Festival.
Sonny Rollins was on stage with his band and they played for over an hour! They were so smooth and well crafted in their music, and Sonny stood during the entire show.
He amazed. His experience and style came through in every note. His band was extremely talented and tight .
