    Veterans of their Craft

    by Luke on 2023-07-19

Sparks has been around for so long and has so much material that I'm not familiar with a lot of it. I didn't recognise a fair amount of the set list, but they are such pros at this point that I enjoyed every moment of the performance.

Fantastic show. The energy and love in the room were palpable. Ron and Russell, thank you for being the artists and showmen you are. We bow to your magic.

    High Energy Show!

    by Joanne on 2023-07-07

This was my first time seeing Sparks and I'm so glad I did. The small intimate venue ensured a great seat. The band was tight and the Mael brothers put on a dynamic, high energy, audience engaging show. The set list had great flow and the crowd was wild and hungry for more. This is, hands down, the best concert I've been to in at least 5 years. The key, I think, is their masterful and emotional connection with their audience. Love, love, loved the show. Can't wait to see them again!

Excellent show. My favorite venue with great sound and great sightlines. Band was tight and Russell's voice was spot on-he has taken excellent care. Hope to see them back again soon.

    FAN SINCE 1974

by LARRY GRAVES AKA CANADIAN STUDMUFFIN on 2023-07-06

I've been a fan of Sparks since 1974. I first saw them at the El Mocambo in Toronto in 1982, and then 31 long years later on their solo tour in 2013. I also saw them in their collaboration band with Franz Ferdinand in 2015. Last year I saw them once more, thinking it might be my final time seeing them. Thankfully I was very wrong, and they are touring once more and more popular than ever. The whole show was fantastic, with Russell in superb form on vocals, plus the band was top notch just like last year. Ron always entertains the crowd and I'm happy to say this even surpassed last years concert. The setlist played some of the older hits and deep cuts, plus quite a few from their fab new album. It was a great concert from start to finish. If you love Sparks, you will love seeing them live!

Sparks puts on an amazing show!

    by Chimp on 2023-07-06

I've been a Sparks fan since the 70's and didn't know what to expect since they've gone through so many phases. Even though they didn't play many old classics it was still an amazing show and Russell can still move around like a 30 year old.The crowd loved it and the band seemed to appreciate the reception they got!

This was my first time seeing Sparks. They absolutely blew my mind. They put on one of the most exciting shows I have seen in ages. They are not young anymore but they have skill, charisma and experience. They are entertainers of the highest order. If you ever get a chance to see Sparks ... GO!

Sparks: odd pop music that thrills

by chasm on 2015-02-18The Theatre at Ace Hotel - Los Angeles

This particular event was a twice-in-a-lifetime occasion, as the brothers Mael were presenting a re-arranged version of their 1974 album "Kimono My House" with a full, 50-piece orchestra. But generally, Sparks are a quirky pop-rock band with witty lyrics and catchy melodies, sung in an amazing falsetto by Russell accompanied by Ron on piano or synth. There's somehow more to it, though, than just that. I think part of it is their age-defying reliability -- they seem almost unchanged from the early 70s, but were so far ahead of their time then that popular music is only just now really catching up with them. Anyway, the orchestra and accompanying re-arrangements were stellar and Russel's energy and enthusiasm infectious. Their fans love them to bits, because they never disappoint either in small intimate venues, or (in this case) the sold-out two-night 2,200-seat Ace Theatre gig.
