ST GERMAIN IN CONCERT:

For the past two decades electronic producer St Germain has gotten audiences moving with his soulful grooves and unique fusion of house music and nu jazz. All that experience has made him a master behind the decks, and his beats grow deeper with every passing year. The four-on-the-floor house beat remains the foundation of his sound, but it’s complemented by sophisticated and tasteful jazz instrumentation, highlighting polyrhythms and bluesy vocal samples. Taking the stage with a full band of seasoned jazz and world-music veterans, St Germain makes sure to keep the music lively and spirited wherever he appears on tour, pleasing all varieties of music lovers with his smooth and eclectic productions.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Producer Ludovic Navarre first rose to prominence in the French house scene of the early ‘90s, releasing singles under names like Subsystem, Modus Vivendi, and Deepside. He truly broke through when he combined the accessibility of house music with the complexity of jazz under his most enduring project St Germain. His first album under the moniker, 1995’s Boulevard, established him as one of the most forward-thinking musicians on the European electronica scene. He then became an international sensation with the release of his 2000 album Tourist, which sold 4 million copies and led to an acclaimed tour where he was accompanied by a full band of jazz musicians jamming over his house grooves. With his reputation as a house luminary firmly cemented, St Germain continued to release occasional singles and dabble in side projects throughout the rest of the ‘00s. He returned in 2015 with a more Afrocentric sound for his self-titled fourth album -- his first full-length release in over 15 years. A seasoned performer well-versed in getting audiences moving, St Germain continues to blend body-rocking grooves with fresh jazz sounds on tour.

St. Germain: Fire the sound techs!

by Northquest on 2016-04-11St. Andrews Hall - Detroit

I have to say I was looking forward to seeing this live show but was disappointed with the final product last night. I blame the sound techs more than the band itself. The low end of the sound spectrum was overshadowing the crisp sound of the instruments at times, some more than others. I could hardly hear the sax player, it was almost like he was miming the instrument. As well the musicians seemed to be flailing around playing little bits that got you excited that they were going to let loose at any moment but then the sound disappeared into obscurity. Too much repetitious beat going nowhere without definitive changes. I will say the percussionist was excellent without a doubt, and I believe they are all accomplished musicians but I did not see the cohesion, tight act, and overall gelling effect that these musicians should have had before they came out on stage. Lastly, it occurred to me that some music acts should stay in the studio where they can sound at their best. Too duplicate that live is not always so easy if you don't have stage presence along with the aforementioned accouterments. St. Germains studio work on his retail releases sound wonderful, and this is why I wanted to see them last night hoping for some vestige of the treat I get each time I listen to them at home. Alas, it was not to be. Maybe by the end of the tour they will get it together, hopefully. All in all, I had a great night out at St. Andrews and downtown Detroit with my friend but I can't say the night was memorable.

    Fantamazing

by Rabodearturo on 2016-04-09Metropolis - Montreal

The show is "FANTAMAZING"! Desptie the downside of an hour delay before The Act played, the fatigue from standing waiting for them disappeared because you cannot help but move your feet along with your body to dance with the music being played. It felt good to be alive!
