was expecting a lot more from mehldau and guiliana given their respective talents but their show felt uninspired and dragged on clarke blew my mind. with two child prodigies as his pianist and drummer, the three pushed the envelope beyond anything else I saw at the festival. great show

    Stanley, revisited, again!

by guitarzann on 2014-07-01Mainstage Marquee at Nathan Phillips Square - Toronto

As usual the man freeks me out on how he can man handle an upright bass! No one close I am afraid, maybe one day he himself may find and bring that out in a young upcoming musician, but, not quite yet!! Thank you gain Stanley Clark!!

Stanley is a brilliant bassist and he knows how to put together an all-star band. You cannot place him in one category. He does it all.

    a perfect 4!

by 2jazz on 2010-07-02The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

No, not their rating as this band goes beyond all superlatives! Just that it is amazing to see 4 utterly perfect musicians on the same stage. This had to be the highlight of the festival, how could it be topped! Hiromi is the very best jazz pianist I have ever heard who simply cannot contain her passion for the music, ranging from sweetly lyrical to powerful explosions. Sirota on keyboard took us on a magical mystery tour with the most innovative playing, producing sounds I would have not thought possible. Bruner Jr. on drums, wow, how can someone so young already be such a gigantic talent, drum solos to take your breath away. Stanley Clarke, say no more, a true jazz genius. I have never heard anyone play bass like him, giving us a truly unique and beautiful electric bass solo but his ultimate genius of course is in the magic he produces from this gifted band. I consider myself lucky, luck, lucky to have heard this band and can't wait to hear them again next year!

    Stanley Clark and Hiromi

by Anonymous on 2010-06-29Toronto Star Stage - Toronto

Great concert with fabulous musicians. The Dave Young group was also excellent. I have one complaint. Why can't concerts at the Festival start on time. This happens every year at all concerts. Nobody seems to care if the audience waits and waits. Even the intermission is too long.Otherwise, I was very satisfied.

    Stanely did not disappoint!

by TimSab on 2010-06-29Toronto Star Stage - Toronto

The setting was perfect, a great summer night, protesters marching by, a great opening act, and the crowd just a buzz with whats been happening in the city. Stanley Clarke was going to be the perfect escape. He did not disappoint! His band was amazing and where did he hook up with Hiromi, she is just incredible. it was the perfect combination. I would have gave the concert 5 stars if it wasnt for the sound problems, I understand stuf happens but it take some of the steam out.
