STEELY DAN IN CONCERT:

Steely Dan is responsible for some of the most complex, finely crafted classic rock of the 20th century, and they continue to deliver on tour more than 40 years after their debut. Core members Walter Becker and Donald Fagen are legendary for their musicianship, and they only surround themselves with the finest players, making for studio-perfect live renditions of their virtuosic compositions. Whether fans are out to wax nostalgic with "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" or sway in the breeze of "Hey Nineteen," Steely Dan never fails to deliver amaze, with another hit-filled tour planed for summer 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Walter Becker and Donald Fagen met in the late '60s at Bard College in Upstate New York, writing songs together for several years before officially forming Steely Dan and releasing their first single "Dallas" in 1972. While the single sold poorly, their debut album Can't Buy a Thrill was released later that year to considerable critical and commercial success, landing the band their first hits with "Do It Again" and "Reelin' in the Years." They continued to climb the charts throughout the decade, reaching their peak position in 1977 with Aja, a No. 3 hit widely regarded as a seminal album of the classic rock era. Amid rumors of a return to the studio, the band will hit the road in 2014 for an extensive summer tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Steely Dan has been around so long they can play an entire concert of familiar songs and not run out. I personally like a band that can recreate the studio sound on stage well. SD does this better than anyone else."

” I cannot think of a time that I was ever disappointed by a Steely Dan show, and this concert was no different. From the minute they took the stage right on up until they left it (almost two hours later) we were presented with excellent music performed to perfection with some stories thrown in for good measure."

"Always a MUST SEE when Steely Dan comes to town! Each song was performed superbly by top-notch musicians. Every member of the band was featured. It was hit after hit, classic after classic."

Groovin' the night away with Steely Dan

by Snicklefritzer on 2017-05-11Opaline Theatre at the Venetian Las Vegas - Las Vegas

It was such a colorful and wonderful concert that won't be forgotten! They (the whole band) have so much talent that made you want to listen forever. It brought back old memories, and wonderful it was! We were only a little disappointed when he didn't play 2 songs for his encore. The one we were hoping to hear was Ricky don't lose that number. Fantastic concert!! Awesome T-shirt my husband bought also!

    Disappointed

by Movieman on 2017-04-24Opaline Theatre at the Venetian Las Vegas - Las Vegas

I have been a fan of Steely Dan since the 70's - Saw them 2 years ago at the Hollywood Bowl and have to say it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. Knowing Steely Dan is famous for perfection in their albums and that the Venetian is a high end establishment I was prepared for a great time. We had balcony seats. which for sight lines were excellent. However the spotlights behind the drummer were aimed high into the balcony where we were, and were blinding. Sound Mixing was terrible (perhaps the fault of the venue and the cheap seats) About 45 mins in my 25 year old couldn't take the lights and went to listen from the balcony entrance and found about 10 other people with the same complaints. I found the set list lacking some of their best songs (FM, Rikki, Peg, Do It Again, Dirty Work) which could have been played if they had dropped a few of the lesser songs, shortened the 10-minute band intros. I won't stop listening because they are still great...I just might stick to their albums from now on

    Steely Dan was heart stopping!

by SpiffandSpritz on 2017-04-22Opaline Theatre at the Venetian Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Steely Dan was a concert I will never forget in my entire life! The musicians were some of the best in the world and the arrangements took my breath away. The performances of both Walter and Donald were mind blowing! Every bit of love and passion was evident in every song they did from Asia (my favourite song of all time) to Ricky Don't Lose That Number. The venue provided excellent seats where ever you were. I left the concert with tears running down my face. My husband who passed away 2 years ago would have loved this concert....our favourite band of all times. Please - if you have an opportunity to see Steely Dan don't pass it up!

    Steely Dan still rocks

by tedebear on 2017-04-22Opaline Theatre at the Venetian Las Vegas - Las Vegas

The show was very good and the band was incredible. The only problem was that they didn't play a couple of songs I wanted to hear...Deacon Blues and Do It Again did not make the cut..was very disappointed.

    The Dan Danned so hard

by SuzyGreenberg on 2017-04-22Opaline Theatre at the Venetian Las Vegas - Las Vegas

I've seen them many times before but this was their best show yet. Perfect from beginning to end, and the sound in the theatre can't be beat. Only downside is the crowd, i was having a great time dancing (in my seat) yet I overheard someone behind me say 'she must be drunk for dancing around like that'. Well I was completely sober, but this was Vegas so I thought it was odd I didn't have a few drinks. It was hard not to move around with such a great show.

    Steely Can

by DeaconYu on 2016-11-01Beacon Theatre - New York

The last of this years 'residency' at the Beacon was incredibly good. As Walter Becker said, it is the best Steely Dan Band ever (although my favourite is the mesmerising percussionist Keith Carlock) and we glimpsed one of them in the warm up act, Madeleine Peyroux, who was accompanied by Jon Herington, the Dan's lead guitarist, who showed another side of his musical palette, as an understated, precise but empathetic partner to Madeleine's thoughtful set. Good warm up for the Dan who came out swinging, concentrating on the usual albums of Aja, Countdown to Ecstasy, Royal Scam etc., with only a couple from their post Gaucho output. Difficult not to have a fantastic concert given their back catalogue; I could have done with more Gaucho, but then the concert would have to be 3 hours instead of 2, which might be a bit past the bedtime of the, admittedly, older crowd. "See you next year, assuming there is still an America" was the only nod to the election season from Donald Fagen. But it was a good, sharp comment, and, sure, I'll see you there in 2017.

    Another awesome show

by Delores3 on 2016-10-24Beacon Theatre - New York

Steely Dan never disappoints but this show at the Beacon Theatre was truly special. The venue was beautiful and show started off with a performance by Rickie Lee Jones who still has a terrific voice. Steely Dan chose a great playlist for the night and we were dancing in the aisles by the end.

    Steeley Dan's greatest hits

by mok658 on 2015-10-18Beacon Theatre - New York

The band was great. Enjoyed every song although Fagen's voice does not have the same range and Walter Becker was suffering some foot affliction. The music as a whole though sounded bang on and did not disappoint. My biggest disappointment was the crowd who seemed more interested in getting drunk than enjoying the music. People around us were stupid drunk and up and down constantly. Honestly, I pine for the days when alcohol was not allowed at concerts and people just got high. In those days the crowds sat, listened and really took in the music. Now, it seems they come to party and get drunk and just don't care about the music very much.
