not worth it
by Bob29 on 2015-04-26Michigan Theater - Ann ArborI've seen several Vinyl Café performances, and this was not up to Stuart's usual standard. I'm sure he recognized that only one of his three stories was warmly received, -- the other two were not terribly funny or imaginative. Maybe the fun has gone out of it for Stuart, -- it seemed like that. The musical group was a bit too modern for the demographic, and the sound system for the musical group muffled their words to the extent that one could really not understand the words. One part of Stuart's show that is always clever, anxiously awaited, and warmly received is his description of local places and events in each town he visits. Apparently he pulled into Ann Arbor too late to make that contribution. Apart from one single reference to Zingerman's, he made no mention whatever of anything in Ann Arbor except that it made him feel like being a student again. Why, Stuart? You let us down here. You owe it to your audience to make warm and appreciative comments about their town, -- as if you really enjoyed the town and your experience there. We got the impression that this was a sort of "breeze in, breeze out" experience for you. Why not talk about Ann Arbor, -- what it means to you, why you came here, etc.? The ticket costs, coupled with an unfriendly Canadian dollar, made this concert very expensive for Canadians. Stuart never asked how many in the audience were Canadian, but I'm sure there were many, like us, who had traveled from Canada and who paid a high price to be there. Overall, it was a disappointment.
