    Susan Jacks' Kidney Foundation Concert

by YXSOPS on 2011-04-26Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

Having attended concerts and followed Susan Jacks' career for 30 years, I was unsure about the quality of the performance that we were about to attend. I need not have been concerned! To be sure, I did notice a change in the range of Ms. Jacks' voice, but her warm and outgoing personality carried the day. She was introduced by Red Robinson himself and it was obvious to me that he had a personal investment in her continued success. Initially she appeared nervous before the audience, but once the music started, her magic started to flow. By the middle of the first set, the house was rocking. Her supporting band was lead by her manager of many years and together they truly put together a memorable performance of Susan's famous hits. Susan has had major personal health issues recently and was giving back to the organization, The Kidney Foundation, that has helped her. The show was advertised as Susan Jacks' and friends and we were not disappointed. Two of the original members of the 1960s group "The Poppy Family" joined her on stage for a couple of numbers as well as cast members of the hit CBC show "Let's Go". Included was a stirring rendition of Neil Young's anthem, "Teach your Children Well". Then the audience joined in with Gusto for Buffalo Springfield's "For What its Worth". A well produced audio visual presentation high lighting the work of the Kidney Foundation was shown and then a number of guests were introduced that are Transplant Donors and Recipients. On Kidney recipient then joined Susan in a new rock song Susan had written about hope and the future. What a great evening!
