SWOLLEN MEMBERS IN CONCERT:

Canadian hip-hop innovators Swollen Members kept it flowing in 2014 with the release of their 11th studio album Brand New Day. MCs Madchild and Prevail continue to spit fire over Rob the Viking's crisp productions, and the trio's adrenaline-filled live shows take songs like "Power" and "King of Diamonds" to new heights. Whether they're hyping up the crowd with deep cuts or leading sing-alongs on favorites like "Warrior", Swollen Members never fail to unleash on their must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Swollen Members formed in Vancouver in 1992, originally consisting of vocalist Moka Only and rappers Madchild and Prevail.  The group spent several years cutting their teeth competing in rap battles and releasing underground 12-inch singles before dropping their 1999 debut LP Balance. The album featured collaborations with Everlast, Dilated Peoples and was a hit with critics, earning the Juno Award for Best Rap Recording upon its 2001 re-release. Producer Rob the Viking joined the fray in 2002 for the release of Monsters in the Closet, which cracked the Canadian charts at No. 7 and went on to receive gold certification from the RIAA. A string of acclaimed albums followed throughout the '00s, resulting in extensive touring with acts like Kottonmouth Kings and Bills 'n' Eso. With the highly anticipated release of the band's 11th studio album Brand New Day in 2014,Swollen Members have ticket buyers eagerly awaiting their next tour.

    Swollen never lets down

by Landon1688 on 2012-04-14Saphire Night Club - Kelowana BC

one thing with a Swollen Members show is that they hardly ever come out on time but it didn't matter to me personally. The opening acts were sick and they always have local artists to get heard. Once Swollen came out the eery just blew up and it didn't let down until you leave the concert, when every track first starts its an adrenaline rush hearing all the classics again. Defiantly recommend this to everyone.

    Great show overall

by Anonymous on 2010-10-02The Pyramid - Winnipeg

Swollen Member were unreal... Far too many opening acts though. Took 4 hours before Swollen came on stage. By then the crowd was not really into it. Luckily Swollen was good enough that it made up for it.

    Swollen Members are Certified Dope

by Kroner on 2010-10-01The Pyramid - Winnipeg

While I've been to tons of concerts in my life, I had never attended a live hip hop concert before and wasn't sure what to expect. But I thought what better hip hop group to test it out on than my favorite hip hop group of all, Swollen Members. I purchased tickets with a buddy who fell sick the day of the concert and couldn't come, so another first for me - I went to the concert solo as I was not about to miss my opportunity to see SM live. While the opening acts were alright, I was there to see Swollen Members. When Swollen Members hit the stage the crowd went completely ballistic and the incredible high energy in the bar did not stop until they left the stage. I'm in my mid-30's and can't remember the last time I actually joined a mosh pit, but by the second song I couldn't help myself and I maneuvered my way to the first row where I was able to enjoy Madchild and Prevail doing their thing up close and personal. Amazing!! After the show, I made sure to purchase a shirt and was able to get a picture with Prevail and had him sign the shirt. My only disappointment of the night was that Madchild never came out for photo opps and signatures after the show. Still, all things considered I give the show an A++ and I will be going again next time they are in the Peg. Thanks for living up to the hype, guys!!! It was an absolutely amazing live show and you truly are certified dope!

    Very poor event

by jmckaufhold on 2010-01-30INDUSTRY NIGHTCLUB - CHILLIWACK

The tickets stated that the doors to the nightclub opened at 8, they didn't open until 9...and by then there was such a line up that you couldn't get a seat. A lam opening act...and Swollen Members didn't even come on until after 11 pm or later. Sad Sad Sad....The Industry Nightclub's website stated that it was only open until midnight...so by the time they came on...it was almost closing time.....never mind that one of our party went outside to smoke and wasn't allowed back in...paid for the ticket but didn't get to see the show...SAD...I would not recommend this clud or this band again...nor would I go again

Lees Palace was small venue, but it was great. Being small felt so close even when you where in the back at the bar. Swollen is a sweet group to see live, they love their fans as much as we love them.

    Swollen brings it home

by Anonymous on 2009-12-03Lee's Palace - Toronto

The show was awesome, after not seeing them for 3yrs it was good to see that they still have it. They bring a lot of energy to the stage and really amp up the crowd. The addition of Tre Nyce also brings a younger youthful energy, and I was watching Mad when Tre was performing and you can see that he really enjoys and is happy with Tre's performance and the energy he brings. Great show, I see them every time they come to the area, I will also be checking out the show in St.Kits on Sat.

Awesome Show, One of the Best Ever

by TheTingler on 2009-11-23The Pyramid - Winnipeg

This show was better than even I had imagined, and I've been a fan of Swollen for the last almost 10 years. I've seen them many times, but the last time was over 3 years ago. They played all of their classics plus a bunch of older stuff, and I just think it was awesome. It was such an up close and personal show, all the guys are really fun and you can tell they love and appreciate their fans. This was hands down the best show at a small venue I have ever been a part of. I will never forget it!

Big B and Swollen were fantastic

by Marciznutz on 2009-11-22Back Alley - Calgary

It was a good show, I can't remember the name of the openers, but they kicked it of intense and loud, I was quite surprised. Big B was just awesome, great songs and lyrics and a good vibe. The third guy who just rapped about getting high in his mellower songs kinda drowned the atmoshpere from Big B, but all was forgotten when swollen came on. They had the crowd jumping, fist pumping and screaming along for nearly an hour an a half. Despite having a few technical difficulties, they went through it and did what they do best, going through a lot of songs from their new album as well as some of the older stuff. A little crowd surfing and smoking may have also occured,

Swollen are the realest in the game

    by Badreligion777 on 2009-11-21Dinwoodie Lounge - Edmonton

I don't have to say it but the show rocked, no question. Venue was perfect (asides from the bar being seriously understaffed) nice and small, up close and personal. Swollen killed it, they played cuts from Ballance, a lot off of Bad Dreams, Black Magic. Although I didn't like the singles from the new album, Armed to the Teeth, for being so dumbed down and musically and lyrically limp compared to their old material, they were professional the whole time. Prevail did a 2.5 minute freestyle that left no doubt that he's at the top of his game, blew everyone away. The newest Swollen Menber proved his worth on stage, and some die hard fans got up on stage and put in a verse here and there. Guest apearances from Big B and Absent Minds were the most memorable, and were absolutely trademark Batleaxe, I mean these guys were twisted.

Put on a great show regardless of venue and crowd size.
