About

TV ON THE RADIO IN CONCERT:

Acclaimed Brooklyn indie band TV on the Radio thrilled fans in late 2014 with the release of Seeds, their first album since the 2011 death of their bassist Gerard Smith. The record was a triumph for the band on numerous fronts -- a tribute to a departed friend, a commitment to pressing on, and, in the opinion of frontman Tunde Adebimpe, their finest work to date. Critics and fans agreed, applauding the album's potent blend of synthpop and art rock and hailing tracks like "Happy Idiot" and "Careful You" as instant classics. TVOTR are a powerhouse live act known for their technical virtuosity and effortless cool, and their visceral performances on tour always treat ticket buyers to the perfect blend of arty indie rock and straight-ahead rock and roll.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

TV on the Radio was formed in Brooklyn in 2001 by singer Tunde Adebimpe and guitarist David Andrew Sitek. They self-released their debut album OK Calculator the following year, promoting it by passing it out on sidewalks and leaving it in local cafes. Coffee shop buzz gave way to international acclaim in 2004 with their studio debut Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes, an ambitious and eclectic record that charted in the UK and made them critical darlings overnight. Their rise continued in 2006 with the album Return to Cookie Mountain, a critical benchmark that featured vocal contributions from David Bowie and dominated year-end lists. They cemented their crossover success with 2008's Dear Science and 2011's Nine Types of Light, both of which peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard 200. In the wake of bassist Gerard Smith's unexpected death in 2011 the band went quiet for a few years, but they returned in 2014 with their highly anticipated fifth album Seeds.

    TVOTR too good to miss

by topherjames on 2011-07-25Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Had the opportunity to see them in Montreal for the Jazz Festival and realized how special this group is live! Stage presence that keeps you tapping your toes, if not outright dancing, and an ensemble that hammers out the fast tunes just as effectively as their drawn out hooks, TV on the Radio is a group worth seeing again and again.

One of the best concerts I have ever been to!

by teryl on 2011-07-23Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

This band is amazing live, one of the few that actually sound better live than on their edited recordings. The set list was awesome, I got to hear all my favorite songs, and some that I didn't know too well but are great all the same. Plus, the sound system at the commodore is awesome for bass, so that helped quite a bit I'm sure since they have a lot of bass in their music. Overall, one of the best shows I've ever seen.

I have seen this band now 4 times and I felt that their most recent show in Vancouver brought a new more exciting energy. Go see them if you haven't already.

The quality of music and showmanship was beyond anything I've seen in the past couple years.

    TVOTR was okay..

by Whatsanickname on 2011-07-22Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I would say that the energy of the bad was really great but I didn't find the concert that enjoyable perhaps because I didn't recognize a lot of the songs that they played even though I had listened to the new album probably 2 times before the show and I have listened to Return to Cookie Mountain and Dear Science plenty of times. I was found myself bored and watching the time up until they played Wolf Like Me. The encore was subpar but I think they may have cut it early because some fans were trying to jump up stage. Way to go Vancouver.
