TALIB KWELI IN CONCERT:

When it comes to socially conscious hip hop, Talib Kweli is in a class all by himself. Combining a distinctly stylish delivery, a gift for intricate rhymes, and a passionate political message, his expertly produced tracks are just as likely to inspire debate as they are dancing. Whether he's collaborating with DJ Hi-Tek or rolling solo, Kweli always delivers a top-notch performance -- which is precisely why fans are so fired up about his 2014 Black Star reunion dates with longtime collaborator Mos Def.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Brooklyn-born rapper Talib Kweli Greene initially broke into the rap game through the Beat Junkies' Lyricist Lounge mixtape project. His subsequent work in Cincinnati with the group Mood resulted in a collaboration with producer Hi-Tek, with whom he has enjoyed a career-spanning creative partnership. While these projects made clear his prodigious talent, it wasn't until he linked up with Mos Def as Black Star that he really achieved widespread success. The critical and commercial success of their debut album Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Black Star played a major role in the record industry's growing recognition of underground hip-hop as a serious force, becoming a genre classic in the process. With six solo records now under his belt and a Black Star reunion hitting venues in 2014, the sky is the limit.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Never seen Kweli live before, but I'll never forget it. Went out and bought Gutter Rainbows after it, and it's the real deal! Please go support our indie artists!"

"This bought back memories of being a teenager and jamming to REAL MUSIC. It was worth getting home late. Great show. Lots of energy."

"Absolutely amazing! These guys played their hearts out and rocked the place."

    Wasnt worth the wait

by yoyoyoyo on 2010-06-06Sound Academy - Toronto

I'm a big Talib fan...I hadn't been paying attention to his concerts so hes someone who i've been wanting to see for a few years...except he isnt worth a 3 hour wait...jay-z.. hes worth a 3 hour wait... not talib... the local opening act came on...he was good.. we were expecting talib next...but no another opening act comes on.. who had the worst set list...to a concert with 80% guys...he sang a song about phone sex...which was him pretty much having phone sex on the mic.... then he sang a song about not being a headliner and making us feel bad for him... you're on tour with reflection eternal... you should be taking that chance to pump us up and make us feel great so talib finally comes on at 12...by that point my moods been shot..i just wanted to leave...i stayed 1/2 hour and just left cuz my back injury couldnt take it anymore and you couldnt understand his lyrics through the speakers anyways ive been to a lot of good concerts to this one was really disappointing

    Definition of Real Hip Hop

by Dmanski on 2010-06-03The Pyramid - Winnipeg

The Venue was a perfect intimate setting for an artist like Talib. Everyone immediately got a real sense that he was totally gearing toward an audience interactive show. He performed a good balance of music from his old albums and the new album that him and Hi-Tek just dropped. One thing that I especially respected was the fact that he acknowledged everyone in the audience. Fellas, ladies, Africans, etc. Most hip hop artists that I go to see have their hormones on cruise control and only shout out to the ladies every five minutes. I also enjoyed his slide shows of influential figures and images of Africa, etc. Overall, it was a "real" hip hop show. Eat your heart out Drake.
