Incredible and personal show
by Jessie on 2023-10-31Commodore Ballroom - VancouverI have been in love with TesseracT since I first heard them nearly 8 years ago. Being that they are from the UK and me living in Kelowna BC I knew that seeing them might never be possible. Thank God they decided to visit nearby Vancouver. We decided to brave the 500 km drive over the high mountain pass late October. And it was worth it. What an incredible show! Alluvial was the real surprise. I'd never heard them before. But I'm a fan now! Even with the regrettable technical difficulties. They still entertained and rocked our souls. What a great way to open the show. Crazy heavy! Guttural vocals, thumping bass, shreddy guitars and pounding drums. Reminded me a lot of Pantera. I've been a long time fan of Intervals as well and it was amazing getting to see Aaron and Co. shred it up. Such great stage presence. Until this point, Tool was easily one of my favourite live bands since they put on such incredible shows. Tesseract did not disappoint. Right from the start with a droning opening to synced red lights and smoke. From then it was song after song of pure progressive metal bliss. Daniel's vocals soar. His range is unquestionably next level. The way he can growl and scream and then shift into the most angelic melodies is astounding. After one such moment (where he hit some ungodly high note) he took a sit and had a quick water break. Well deserved, he might have shattered some beer glasses in the upper balcony. Acle and James lay out the most incredible guitar parts. They melt your face in one moment and then guide you through sweeping melodies and blissful atmosphere's. Jay's drumming is so amazing, and compliments the band incredibly well. Amos plays intricate and compelling bass lines, all he while completely bare foot. He might be nearly as entertaining to watch as their front man. They played a great set. Hit all of the songs that I wanted to hear, both new and old. And they did a 3 song encore after the crowd began chanting "one more song"and stomping on the floor in true Canadian fashion, like we were all at a some minor league hockey game. And the Commodore was so great. A truly amazing (and historical) venue in the heart of Vancouver. Plenty of room to thrash, or sit at a table if you prefer. Staff was awesome and everything was extremely well organized. And afterwards the short and cold walk back to the hotel, but not before indulging in a fully loaded cheddar dog at a nearby food cart. The perfect night!
