THE GO-GO'S IN CONCERT:

 

After three decades together, iconic new wave girl group the Go-Go's still have the beat. Boasting an all-star lineup that includes the beloved voices of Belinda Carlisle and Jane Wiedlin, the Go-Go's continue to be one of the most effervescent live acts around, practically bursting with energy as they take the stage to perform upbeat classics like "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "Head Over Heels." One thing is clear: these girls just want to have fun, and that's exactly what they'll do on their upcoming tour dates.

 

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

 

Formed amid LA's burgeoning punk and new wave scene in the late '70s, the Go-Go's got their start playing seminal venues like The Whiskey A Go Go and The Roxy. For their 1981 debut LP Beauty and the Beat, the band eschewed their early punk sound in favor of a more radio-friendly brand of power pop -- with phenomenal results. The album peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, spawning the hit singles "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We Got the Beat" and earning the girls the Best New Artist award at the 1982 Grammys. 1982 follow-up Vacation was a similar success, landing two more hits on the charts and going on to be certified Gold by the RIAA. Following an initial breakup in 1985, the band's members embarked on various solo ventures, reuniting periodically over the years to record and tour. Back on the road for another highly anticipated tour, the Go-Go's will bring their signature energy to venues around the country.

    They're an amazing band!

    I have seen the Gogo's 3 times live. This time was no different from the shows of the past. These woman kickoff a solid set of hits that take me back to highschool. It's sad that this may be the last time I am able to see them perform together, since they are calling this the Farewell tour. Belinda noted that that they had been playing together for 5 decades! Yes, ladies you have meant much to me and millions of fans! I came all the way from Vancouver, BC Canada to see this show. It was great that everyone was around their late 40's- early 50's and just getting into it so much. The venue was a bit disappointing though. The beach resort has a large stage that juts out from an upper level. The problem is the ' moat/ wave pool ' put a huge distance between the band and its fans. Pastel shirted security stood around the edge to ensure no one decided to recreate the fountain scene from the Our Lips are Sealed video. Usually the band invites fans up to the stage to Cool Jerk and this couldn't happen and Belinda voiced her dismay. Fabulous show, I am a fan forever!

    The Sweethearts

    First time seeing them live and despite all the rumors you hear over the years you are meeting the sweetest little things you ever did see. So sad to say farewell yet amazing they lasted so long. Celebrating Belinda's birthday we all sang happy birthday too.

    Awesome show..a bit of Confusion before Our Lips Are Sealed..Overall great show..they could of played a couple more songs if they didn't fool around..Belinda Carlisle voice was top notched..Charlotte Caffey guitar sounded good..Gina Schock Drumming was awesome as usual.Janes vocals were too loud...

    Go-go's went

    We were standing, front row and at the stage. We were hoping for a couple of signatures on our vintage vinyl and the girls let us down. There also appears to be conflict between the band mates. The drummer is a hoot and guitar player is super talented.

    Go Gos - Eye Rolls

    The band was tight and Belinda's vocals strong. They played all their hits. The band dynamics seemed strong but Belinda seemed annoyed by their antics and often rolled her eyes at everyone but especially their excellent drummer (who I thought brought a funny feel and high energy to the New Year show). Belinda – maybe your resolution for 2014 should be better crowd banter….just a suggestion.

    So glad they got off the coke, got over their differences and got back together. Still great. I especially loved the drummer, good as anybody out there.

    The Go-Go's always put on a fun, lively show. They have a great repoire with the audience, so funny and engaging. They want their fans to have a fun time!

    Amazing Amazing !!!!

    Didn't feel like going out that night. When we arrived and waiting for the GoGo's to come out we where not disappointed. They were just amazing and the best show I have seen at Rama. Live music can't get any better than that ! ! !

    They've still got it...an excellent performance LADIES...like time had stood still. An amazing stage persona and mix of personalities, compliment one another. I missed Kathy Valentine tho, as she was not performing this show. i was very disappointed that I could not get my LP "beauty and the beat" signed, as this was their first album,,,,but still their show was excellent! What a flash back...its hard to believe.
