About

The Head and the Heart in Concert

With an infectious style that combines folk, country, pop, and smart songwriting, Seattle, Washington's The Head and The Heart have earned a reputation as a consummate live act, charming concertgoers with their layered arrangements and intricate vocal harmonies. In 2013, the band released their most confident and mature album to date, Let's Be Still, featuring lead single "Shake," an indie folk stomper that perfectly captures the energy of the band's live performances. After meeting at various open mic nights around Seattle, the band officially formed in 2009, touring the Pacific Northwest before releasing their self-titled 2010 debut album. The buzz of that album attracted the interest of several labels, and the band ultimately signed to Sub Pop Records, who re-released The Head and The Heart LP in April 2011 with additional material including "Down In The Valley, "Lost in My Mind," and "Rivers and Roads." The band toured widely throughout 2010 and 2011 as a supporting act for Dave Matthews, Death Cab For Cutie, and The Decemberists, also headlining their own shows before returning to the studio to record their sophomore album. On tour in 2013, the band impressed ticket buyers with their eclectic live concerts, leading audiences through foot-stomping sing-alongs of the indie folk anthems they've become known for.

The Head and the Heart will release their four studio album called Living Mirage on May 17, 2019. They start touring in the summer of 2019 with 39 dates in support of the new album along with the alternative rock band Hippo Campus on select dates.

    Great show despite the rain

by alligator on 2022-09-30RBC Echo Beach - Toronto

Wish that this venue had a tent or overhead item that could be put up for rain, but otherise the show was great and continued without interruption!

    FANTASTIC concert!!!

by Brooke on 2022-09-30RBC Echo Beach - Toronto

I went to the Head and the Heart's concert at RBC Echo Beach, in Toronto and it was an incredible night! The weather was crummy (rain) but the event experience was smooth from the check-in/registration side of things and the venue was great because it was so open. I was ecstatic that I was able to get quite close before Shakey Graves came and then after with some people leaving, I actually made it to the very front!!! This was my first time seeing the Head and the Heart - they are SUCH a talented group, they put on an amazing show, loved, loved it! This may have been the best concert I've been too and I've been quite a few. Even with poor weather I had a fantastic night! Thank you the Head and the Heart!

    Best concert of the year

by Puddle jumper on 2022-09-30RBC Echo Beach - Toronto

You know how a lot of bands sound the same or not as great as their clean recordings? Not Head and the Heart— they are amazing live and their energy, performance skills, and raw talent make the whole experience so worth braving a rainy day!! We loved that they played all the classics along with their new stuff; it was a perfect balance! Will definitely be buying tickets every time they’re in town!

    Technical Issues

by That Guy on 2019-10-21Algonquin Commons Theatre - Ottawa

Illiterate Light was a truly beautiful discovery! Their energy was contagious and they performed incredibly well! So much fun! The Head and the Heart were good, especially in the pared-down versions of their songs, where you could actually hear the voices or select instruments. Overall, this was a disappointing outing. Algonquin Commons Theatre needs to work on their sound setup. The volume was at painful levels. You could barely hear anything apart from the drums! The vocals of Charity Rose Thielen and her instruments were barely audible. Overall, it was one of the poorest sound setups I've experienced in the city. The band tried to make it work (and you could see them struggling, to hear, to sing, even to reach the right notes), and ultimately they still managed to give a great performance (highlights include the acoustic or pared-down versions of theirs songs).

    Great experience!

by Laurie on 2019-10-21Algonquin Commons Theatre - Ottawa

The Concert was amazing! The Head and the Heart played a whole evening of great songs where the entire audience stood on their feet and sang along. The venue was perfect - small and intimate, great acoustics and easy to get to and park. Loved it!

    Disappointing

by Anonymous on 2018-09-21Malkin Bowl - Vancouver

I have seen this band several times at multiple venues (indoor and outdoor) and have always been impressed - until this show. My primary complaint would be with the sound. There were clearly some issues with the sound balances (ie. bass was completely overbearing) which made it very difficult to enjoy the songs I know and love. In addition, there appeared to be something off with one of the vocalists, whose mic was mostly muted and who struggled hit her notes. Perhaps she was sick, which isn't really her fault. But, overall, definitely not in line with previous shows. Finally, the set seemed a bit short - they left pre-encore after an hour, and came on for a few songs after that, but we were expecting a little bit more, especially given that the show ended a good 20 mins before the venues already early curfew.
