As a senior needing hearing aids throughout the play, I found I had a few problems. Both Miss Prisim and Lady Bracknell over exaggerated their words making them hard to understand and Lady Bracknell often dropped her voice at the end of each sentence. The other ladies were easy for me to understand. The scenery and costumes were both a pleasure. Miss Prisim looked a bit young to be the nursemaid of Jack.

Excellent show. The artistic director took some liberties with the beautiful simplicity of the piece, but because of the cultural context it was written in and how the themes applied to the time period, alterations had to be made for it to maintain it's meaning. It was exaggerated and over-the-top in some cases, but the piece was comical and the set was beautiful. A very elaborate set with three change-overs aided in the viewers immersion. Overall, the play was successful.

I was reminded once again why I do not usually go to English Theatre productions of the NAC company. Generally the acting was not vey satisfying...even irritating...but the one who stood out head and shoulders above the others in terms of talent and stage presence (as well as height and physical humour!) was the actor playing Algernon-- thanks to him for being there, he saved the evening for me.
