Ubc Opera Ensemble Tickets

With tongues planted firmly in cheeks the brilliant cast of "The Florentine Straw Hat" delivered a fun-filled evening that delighted the ear and the eye! It was joyful to see and hear this opera performed with all the energy and verve of youth, and yet the singing seemed perfect, the acting first-rate, and the orchestra played beautifully too! The sets were a tad clunky, but the costumes were lovely, and thankfully, the standard of performance was so high that the horse, delightful as it was, did not manage to steal the show!

We were planning a weekend in Seattle but at the last minute decided to stay in Vancouver instead of travelling...we are so glad! The Florentine Straw Hat provided a wonderful evening of comic opera. Excellent comedic timing, great sets, the orchestra was absolutely perfect and overall the acting was flawless.

This was an outstanding presentatio0n by the UBC Opera under Ms. Hermiston. The sets were very appropriate for this tragic tale. The costumes were a very harmonious fit, especially of course the nuns' habits. The acting was superb but the voices truly rose to the occasion to Poulenc's dramatic lyrics. A must see for our locals!

We were very impressed with the singing and the excellent staging!

Very good effort by music students, both the singers and orchestra.. Judith Forst was memorable. Surprisingly good French pronunciation.
