(Everything! How greedy!)
I'm chipping away at seeing all the important choirs in the city and hadn't yet seen the Vancouver Chamber Choir. Was pleasantly surprised to see some familiar faces from other groups (I think Musica Intima and Elektra?). I realize this recital was a special circumstance, that being the culmination of a workshop for aspiring conductors. In the end, though, this aspect was a bonus. What a fantastic program. I'm a fan of themed programs, but there's something to be said for randomness. Great dynamic mix of old and new(ish); lovely singing--and certainly hats off to the choir to have to do so much, and such different, repertoire in a single evening. Even the banter in between sets was decidedly engaging. LOVED the Candide; never get to hear that. The single thing I didn't like was the dead sound in the room; I know, though, that this is a necessary quality for the general functions of the space. Will definitely come out to see the VCC again. Too bad there are so many Friday shows (for all the city's choirs). I'm always working!
