Yamato is a troupe of 10 members, 4 women and six men. One might think that the women would be somewhat outshone by the men due to the upper body strength required to play the larger drums. Thankfully, this proved NOT to be the case. The entire troupe was energetic, skillful, precise, primal, powerful and highly professional and humorous. The set comprised about 10 pieces, each between 7 and 15 minutes in length, utilizing in different pieces a variety of drums, a flute, 4 shamisens (Japanese 3-stringed instrument) and cymbals of several sizes. Some pieces were quite funny, some very powerful, some delicate, and some a combination. Excellent show all around.
