Winnipeg Roller Derby -A must see

by Topher131 on 2013-10-01Winnipeg Convention Centre - Winnipeg

If you've never seen Roller Derby you should see this at least once! The teams will do a practice run to visually show the audience the rules of the game. And it's quite easy to get into it in a short time. Lots of fun.

    LOVED IT

by SGTMAJSTEVE on 2012-10-15Winnipeg Convention Centre - Winnipeg

WE HAD A GREAT TIME. LOTS OF ACTION. THE ONLY THING WAS THE SOUNDS WAS VERY BAD. WE COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY WERE SAYING. ALSO PUT THE SCORE BOARD IN THE MIDDLE WITH 2 SIDES SO EVERYONE CAN SEE IT. BUT WE ENJOYED THE EVENT AND WILL RETURN TO THE NEXT ROLLER DERBY EVENT.

by juenology on 2011-09-26Winnipeg Convention Centre - Winnipeg

fantastic. didn't expect this event to be so fantastically/professionally put together. complete with big screen playback and scoreboards, with music, beer, concession stands and wild announcers. had a great time.

Loved the competition. First game really tight. Hot dogs were horrible, but the beer was cold!

    WoW-It is real!!!!!

by Briman1review on 2011-05-02Winnipeg Convention Centre - Winnipeg

Thought this stuff was like WWE a bunch of entertainment. I was shocked at how hard these women really go at it. This was a lot of fun to watch and it was very entertaining in the fun and real sports way. Every type of person is represented on each team. Fast, hard hitting, and sportsmanship all combined. A couple of small changes I would make would be to get the announcers to stop chastising the fans for not screaming. Once in a while you can hype up the crowd, but did not appreciate their technique. When there was time to kill instead of these guys yapping all the time about nothing would have been nice to use the big screen for videos of hits from other matches along with bios on the players. We had the program but a short video of each player could come up with them talking about themselves and roller derby. Then just cut off when ready to go again. This would get the fans to know the players more. Fun stuff.

    Family fun

by Copeina on 2011-05-02Winnipeg Convention Centre - Winnipeg

Not as exciting as past events, but only because of the crowd. Curious if the big name sponser has perhaps pasteurized the audience. At times even thought the action was great, the room was absolutely silent... odd. As always, the women were awesome and certainly did what they do best! I will continue to be a fan!!

Red River Deep Freeze was awesome!!

by crushem on 2011-02-27Winnipeg Convention Centre - Winnipeg

The event was awesome. It was alot more agressive than previous bouts. Was not impressed with the reffing this time. Seemed to me that they were missing alot intentionally. Of course I am not doing it so am not an authority on it. Also, I was very disappointed in one or two of the Alberta team members who, in their gestures during the bout were unsportmanlike in their conduct. # 555 from Alberta team acted very full of herself especially when she would win a round. Her actions in my opinion disrespected the other team (Winnipeg). This went on throughout the entire bout. All the other teammembers from both teams were respectul. Yes, they hit hard but still would stand on the line and joke with each other. I know the name of the game but what #555 did was a turn off. She was irritating. Other than # 555, I loved the venue, the event, the security, refreshments, the announcers are funny and entertaining. Even the crowd was interactive. I have been to other events and sat at trackside (suicide) seats and they are definitely better than the stands seats. Sound was much better as the announcers were not so loud. The announcers were not screaming so it didn't hurt my ears.

    Derby finds its feet

by Laure on 2011-02-22Winnipeg Convention Centre - Winnipeg

I went before Christmas to see the home teams play, and fell in love with Roller Derby. Since then I have bought roller skates at Peach Jam in the Johnston Terminal and lost 10lbs skating my butt off at Wheelies twice a week. I'm not in the fresh meat, but I wish I was. So I'm not entirely objective... This match was rougher, faster, and more exciting. The hits were harder, the wipeouts more spectacular. The Maidens didn't win, but every moment was worth watching. I guess things just get more competitive when you're playing against a team of strangers. All the better for the audience!
