Casa Loma was fabulous, the tea not so much

    by Tealover26 on 2014-02-20Casa Loma - Toronto

Casa loma is a fabulous place, the history is so interesting, the displays in each room are really excellent. The horse stables and the garage are really good, the view after climbing to the top of the house is incredible.. There is even a movie of Sir Henry Pellatt. There are so many rooms and so much to see- well worth a visit. But the tea itself was a disappointment, only 2 teas to choose from a chocolate black tea and an herbal tea. We thought there should have been more of a variety. What about some more traditional tea ? a Darjeeling, Earl Grey, English Breakfast ? And the food was good, but far too many sweets and not enough sandwiches or food of substance.

    Disorganized disaster

by Industrygirl on 2014-02-16Casa Loma - Toronto

After purchasing my tickets, I called in to see if I needed to reserved a time to come in for high tea, and was told to come in at anytime. Already I knew this was going to be a bad idea for seating ..so I show up on Saturday at 1:00pm and was told it will be a 1 hour wait. My predictions were correct as at least 40 other guests were waiting as well. After an hour I am seated and this is where things go further south. I am completely ignored and no one approached me and my guest. After 5 minutes of waiting, the table behind me is sat. A server approaches the table and I overhear him taking their food order. For the hour and a half I was there I was pretty much on a self serve basis. While the establishment is nice and the food was good (hence my 2 stars) the service ruined my experience and I will not be returning nor would I recommend it to anyone.

    High Tea - Casa Loma

by Geranium on 2014-02-11Casa Loma - Toronto

This was a five-star event. The venue, service and food was top notch. Would suggest ticket holders be given a choice of seating time to reserve a table for the number in their party thus avoiding long waits and to ensure a table in the windowed areas (we accepted hallway tables in order to avoid a 45 minute wait). Special high tea events for Easter, Mother's Day etc. would be wonderful. The record-breaking tea tray was a fabulous draw as was the inclusion of a tour.

nice castle, not so good high tea

by susiesusie on 2014-02-11Casa Loma - Toronto

It felt so crowded, not well organized, service are so not professional and so slow. The food is ok, but it's not like other high tea where you get your tray of food. You can only grab one from a waitress's tray every time they come to you (only if they come to you...). i felt ignored. we had to wave at the waitress or say 'excuse me, wait' to catch their attention. otherwise they just walk pass you and you don't get food and had to wait for the next round and try your best to catch their attention. they stuff so many tables in one room, to crowded. some of the waitress are quite rude. never go again.

High Tea should be renamed Cold Tea at Casa Loma

by Anonymous on 2014-02-11Casa Loma - Toronto

While they finally figured it out when our tea time was over and we were leaving, the tea that was served did not warm my insides on a chilly winter day when my sisters and I made the trek to this event. The "largest tea cake stand" was impressive and beautifully set up in the main foyer and the pastry chef and the female servers in period clothing made for great photos. The actual food and tea however left much to be desired. The tea, a poor selection of two flavours, one which was herbal (so not even a real tea) was provided by David's tea and was served at room temperature. Clearly someone neglected to check and maintain the burners to keep the liquid hot. With the exception of a few savoury pastries, everything else was mediocre. No information was provided either by the servers (understandable since they were busy with such a large crowd) or printed about what we were eating. All in all, other than the company of my sisters and the beautiful setting of the castle, it was not a culinary experience that I would do again.

    Great Experience

by NuiNui on 2014-02-11Casa Loma - Toronto

Having high tea in Casa Loma is a nice experience given the history and atmosphere of surrounding. The Conservatory room and Library are georgous which enhance the high tea experience. For improvement opportunity, we would suggest aligning towards the more traditional high tea look & feel and quality. Having such a small portion (6 pieces of finger food only) is not enough. The free audio tour is nicely done. We spent over 4 hrs going to every floors and rooms and thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't wait to come back in the summer. The butlers are highly knowledgable. Thanks for sharing the untold stories of Casa Loma.

The event overall was a great experience in terms of ambience. The food was ok. You had to go up to grab a tray stocked with pre selected items. The only issue was that some people have allergies and needed substitution. In addition to this, there were only two tea options. One which had almonds the other earl grey. Again if someone has an allergy. Which one of my friends did. There was no alternative beside the grey. The location was stunning and it was great getting a chance to go on the tour but I think they should rethink the set up of the serving if the plan to do it again. The gift bags advertised were not handed out.

    High Tea at Casa Loma

by Anonymous on 2014-02-05Casa Loma - Toronto

The venue was great and the food was very good. It was also well organized except for the desserts, which would have been better presented similarly to the rest of the food. The gift basket was a bit of a let down, as it did not include what was described on the website. But overall it was a very pleasant afternoon at the famous Toronto castle.

High Tea @ Casa Loma? 'meh' !

by NobsNobs on 2014-02-04Casa Loma - Toronto

While the venue was lovely, the planning and coordination of this event left much to be desired. Upon admission, confusion seemed the order of the day. It was unclear what you needed to do in order to participate in the event and enjoy the much hyped 'high tea' experience. After speaking to four different staff members who all seemed to just be standing around, I gave my phone # to one of them who promised to text me when a table was ready. Unfortunately, that never happened. Luckily my husband and I were enterprising and managed to get ourselves a table. The tray of pastries was dry and one which had an egg filing made me immediately nauseous. Although only two tea options were available, the one we both chose was absolutely delicious. I took note of the flavour and will definitely find it to purchase. The standing tea tray was okay but not very impressive. I was looking forward to sampling a few of the offerings, especially since I didn't eat much of what we were given. However, I was told by one of the staff at the standing tea tray that guests were only allowed to have two samples. Since my husband stayed behind to hold our table, this was disappointing since I only got to take one sample for him to try. Nevertheless, exploring Casa Loma was a nice experience and overall it was a pleasant day. I probably wouldn't recommend that anyone waste their money buying tickets though. Sorry, just being honest.
