About

After more than 30 years of a lifestyle that often required lots of time on the road, country legend George Strait has saddled up for what he says will be his final tour, a two-year outing dubbed The Cowboy Rides Away Tour.

More than 20 farewell concerts take place between January and May of 2014, and the shows -- many of which will feature a big-name special guest such as Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Martina McBride, or Sheryl Crow -- are proving to be hot tickets as fans celebrate the storied career of the country mainstay. He announced his retirement from the road during a September 2012 press conference in Nashville, and played more than 20 farewell shows during early 2013.

Strait doesn't plan to ride into the sunset -- he's just done with long tours. He recently renewed his deal with MCA Records, so he'll keep releasing new music and plans to also play select concert dates in the future. But grueling trips aboard the tour bus are in his rearview mirror.
After the Urban Cowboy ethos dominated country music in the late '70s, Strait emerged in the early '80s with his take on classic country stylings, and is often credited with paving the way for other neo-traditionalist superstars like Garth Brooks, Dwight Yoakam, and Randy Travis.
Strait's catalog includes timeless hits like "Amarillo by Morning," "All My Ex's Live in Texas," "Love Without End, Amen," and "I've Come to Expect it From You."

A 2006 inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Strait's remarkable career has included a record 60 No. 1 songs on the country chart. He holds many other country sales records, including most No. 1 albums and most gold, platinum, and multi-platinum albums. Only Elvis Presley and The Beatles have more combined gold and platinum albums in their catalogs.

A native of Poteet, Texas, south of San Antonio, Strait grew up in neighboring Frio County. He first took up music in high school as a member of a rock garage band. After a stint in the Army, he  earned an Agriculture degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos while playing in a bar band that performed around central and south Texas.

Strait signed with MCA Records in 1981, after Erv Woolsey, who ran one of the bars Strait's band played, urged Nashville talent scouts to check him out. Woolsey went on to become Strait's manager.

The show was amazing. George Strait and Reba are both tremendously talented performers and entertained the crowd with a good mix of old and new songs. Lee Ann Womak provided a great opening act as well. The 4+ hour show went by in a flash.

    George Strait and Reba

by maxsdAD on 2011-02-21The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

This was the best show we have seen in years. We could have listened all night. Reba is ageless and a great entertainer. We have seen her three times and we never tire of her. George was so easy to listen too. His voice is so smoothe. The show was worth every penny. Would love to see it again.

I went to the concert in Auburn Hills Michigan Feb 19 2011. The concert was amazing. All three have such amazing voices. Their presence on the stage was unbelievable. I love Reba and seeing her perform has inspired me to try and age with the grace that she has done. They need to be an inspiration to all so as we get older we can try and stay as fit and healthy as they do. Hats off to Reba and George. They all looked fabulous Luv u guys. Great concert!!!!! Yahooo

    George the KING....Reba the QUEEN

by Toogie on 2011-02-21The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

George Strait has always been my very favorite country performer. As a matter of fact, my alltime favorite performer. I have been an avid fan of his since 1982. I am now 60 years young and my adoration for him has not wavered in 28 years. Only gotten much, much better. I have always enjoyed Reba, but it is my hubby that just adores her. She is a wonderful performer and can really hold a performance together. Which is exactly what she did last Saturday evening. Then along came George. Just MAGNIFICENT. I found that his voice was the best it has ever been, and it has always been great. Truly a fantastic concert, rite from Leanne to the King himself.

So much talent on the same stage

by Trinky on 2011-02-21The Palace of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills

As far as the entertainers are concerned, you couldn't ask for more. All three were excellent. As for the venue, the seating on the floor was unacceptable to say the least. I have never been to a concert in Detroit where I have been so uncomfortable. The seats were so close to gether, my knees were against the seats in front of me and I have short legs.

The volume was terrible. I could hardly hear from where I was sitting. If I didn't already know the song, I could barely understand what they were singing. Turnover between acts was very quick, which was great. I wish Reba had done more of her older stuff. But she was fabulous regardless. My only real complaint was the sound volume. It was very disappointing to pay so much and travel so far for such terrible sound management.

    good concert

by sgoss on 2010-10-25Fargodome - Fargo

Concert was good, seats were bad so spent most of the time watching the screen verses the stage. Ticket price was high for the seats we got. Reba was great, such an entertainer. Had trouble understanding Leanne Womack, mic was not very good. George was good, sang 29 songs that night, but lacks some personality on the stage.

    Fantastic!!

by Jodoe on 2010-10-25Fargodome - Fargo

We have seen George Strait in Winnipeg a few years back, and very much enjoyed the show. But when we heard he was going to the Fargodome with REBA, omg we had to go! George Strait is a ledgen on his own, but man oh man Reba is just fantastic! They both were just awesome. The show started right at 7pm with Leeanne Wolmack (not sure if I spelt that right lol) she was pretty good too, then Reba, then George came on about 9:30pm. He played till about 11pm, and came back with a 4 song oncore! We walked out of there about 11:30PM. All around fantastic show, well worth the money, and the Fargodome is very organized - easy to drive in and drive out!!

    Reba is a Superstar

by RRyan on 2010-03-29Tacoma Dome - Tacoma

Reba is as good live as she is on a professionally produced album. She is a great singer, maybe the best. Her energy and excitement makes the crowd go crazy. She gave an almost two hour preformance that left you feeling that you got your moneys worth before George Strait had ever stood on the stage. Reba should win entertainer of the year again. George was a great singer too but he lacked the energy of Reba.
