PACO PENA - FLAMENCURA
Algonquin Commons Theatre - Ottawa
I have attended many Flamenco dance events since I was a young girl in Spain, and continue now when i go to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico when dancers from Spain tour. The event held in Ottawa at Algonquin College was the best I have ever attended. The male and female dancers were strong and talented, I would give them 10 out of ten. The same with the singers and the guitar players. Tears of pleasure!

My first Flamenco show and I loved it! This was for me a prelude before I go to Spain in, hopfully, a few years from now to see an authentic live Flamenco show at a cafe bar. This representation was an excellent introduction :) In my opinion, only one thing was missing from my expectations and it was the traditionnal dance combined with the "castagnette" with the traditionnal red and black fluffy dress. I guess that one I will have to see in Spain ;P

Paco Pena show reliably good
National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa
Although I enjoyed the show overall, I was disappointed with the fact that there was no program! We didn't know what sort of dances we were watching, who the dancers and other artists were and etc. If this was Pena's idea, he does a deep disservice to his artists. I think the NAC should insist on a program, even if it is a simple pice of paper. The other problem was that Angel Munoz was not there. He seems he took part in other parts of the North American tour, but not Ottawa. As he is easily the biggest draw among the dancers, at least, this was a real disappointment. I will check next year to find out who is dancing elsewhere before I buy a ticket.

what talent!!
National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa
It actually brought back a flood of memories! Very moving and modern.. not too much of the distraction traps... The only issue was.... there were no programs...and why?? the event was not unplanned, so the program would have helped with song tittles and spectators expectations.

Paco Pena always wonderful
National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa
We attended the flamenco show March 6th at the NAC in Ottawa. Paco Pena is a master of the flamenco guitar and is a very talented composer. From the time the show started we felt we were transported into another world.. The music was captivating, the accompanying musicians were each very talented and the two singers voices strong. The flamenco dancers were wonderful, so elegant and yet so powerful. The women's hands were graceful moving in rhythm to the music and the costumes gorgeous. We had loge seats, a bit of a splurge, but well worth it as we had an uninterrupted view of the stage and the acoustics terrific.

Paco Pena concert
Arden Theatre - St Albert
Since I have got opportunity (by receiving the email) to review this concert here it is: This was my first time visiting Arden theatre in St. Albert. What a beautiful place. Paco Pena is virtuoso with the guitar and the Flamenco dancers were GREAT! His guitar playing is superb, the singer is excellent, and the dancers… they were just brilliant. All three of them. The one guy was a little more graceful than the other, but the other man was intense and very, very strong. The dancer who can communicate the strength of the people's willingness and ability to survive is most beguiling. This one dancer did exactly that. On the negative side, I think it would help if there was some kind of communication between audience and the performers. Like if someone said few words at the beginning of the concert, about the Flamenco music, meanings of the songs that were being played that night etc. Also, stage was very dusty, and when the female dancer was swinging her dress, there was a cloud of dust everywhere. Very unpleasant to see this happening on the stage. Anyways, the concert was good and you will not be disappointed!

Paco Pena was extraordinary
Vogue Theatre - Vancouver
The show was superb, dancers and musicians showed the passion for the flamenco music and dance. The only bad thing was the venue, it was awful!!. I don't think I'll come back to see a show at the Voge Theater.

Peña's ensamble performed well
Vogue Theatre - Vancouver
Paco Peña, though advanced in years, keeps his immaculate flamenco guitar technique. He is an expert at recognizing new emerging flamenco music talents in his native Cordoba and has picked well the other two guitarists, two singers and three dancers. Flamenco music is not easy to listen as it is difficult to understand the Andalusian, complicated rhythm structures and accents influenced by Arabic music. Nevertheless, with the perfect lighting, fantastic microphone enhancement (this Vogue Theatre is dead like a dodo) the show came out very interesting and alive. I'm glad I went.

Best Flamenco ever
Vogue Theatre - Vancouver
Really the whole show was excellent. Fast paced and full of passion. Angel Munoz was a force everytime he was on the stage. The passion that all of the performers displayed were quite simply what you love about flamenco. I am hoping they will return soon. Behnson
