KING DIAMOND IN CONCERT:

When it comes to all-out macabre spectacle, few artists can compete with legendary Danish heavy metal icon King Diamond. The revered performer has been honing his diabolical stage persona for four decades, and his highly theatrical live show is the perfect showcase for his incredible falsetto vocals, bludgeoning guitars, and over-the-top showmanship. From his heavily painted black and white makeup to the neon crosses hanging upside-down above the stage, King Diamond's acclaimed tours provide an unforgettable concert experience that fans of full-blown heavy metal extravaganza won't want to miss.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Danish metal legend King Diamond, a.k.a. Kim Bendix Peterson, got his start as a performer in the mid-'70s with the heavy rock outfits Brainstorm and Black Rose. In 1981 he formed the seminal heavy metal group Merciful Fate, which provided a testing ground for the quasi-Satanic persona he had begun developing with his earlier projects. After two acclaimed albums and a world tour the band called it quits, and in 1985 King Diamond launched his solo career with his eponymous band. Their 1986 debut Fatal Portrait cracked the Top 40 in Sweden, enthralling the country's dark metal fans with morbid songs like "Lurking in the Dark" and "Halloween". The band followed up in 1997 with concept album Abigail, which landed on the US Billboard 200 chart and staked the increasingly ambitious, concept-oriented territory they would continue to explore on subsequent releases. With 12 studio albums and nearly as many acclaimed tours under their belt, King Diamond continues to thrill ticket buyers with their no-holds-barred heavy metal mayhem.

    Metal Magic!

by TMesic on 2019-12-01Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The venue was clean and well organized as usual, with friendly staff. The concert itself was so good and entertaining however not sure why it ended so early. Kind Diamond only played a little over an hour, which is unusually short for a headliner. An encore would have been appreciated.

I got there 20 minutes before the first band came on. Got inside and bought my drinks in a timely manner and proceeded to the front and center of the pit where I rocked out for 3.5 hours. Volume was satisfying and performances were great. Would see that show again any day.

    Excellent!

Great show. Amazing the all bands started precisely on time posted. I was there for King Diamond and what a great performer along with the dancer Jodi. Sound for KD was perfect though vocals were but low at beginning. Uncle Acid was too loud. Wish KD played longer and wish he had done a few Mercyful Fate songs too.

    Are you experienced?

Entry into the venue was swift. The venue was clean, the staff friendly and helpful. $3 water was nice too. As for the show itself we missed Idle Hands because of work commitments. Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats put on an awesome show. The focus was on the music instead of theatrics which was good because their music was loud and driving. Very different band from what you normally see on a metal bill, but I’m sure the King couldn’t help be infected by their energy. I’m not a big King Diamond fan but decided this concert would be a perfect gateway to his music and he did not disappoint. For a man well into his 50s he can still sing the falsetto parts beautifully. And his band sounded tight, like the seasoned veterans they clearly were. A great night of music and theatrics. Would go again.

    King Diamond Concert

by Martin on 2019-11-15MTELUS - Montreal
