A great show but, alas, the mix had Mike's vocals way down behind the band instruments. I've been at other shows at the Music Hall where the mix was bang on so it must be an issue of a new venue to the band or the like. Don''t want to nail the sound person (local or with the band?)
I was in the balcony and that may have impacted as well. I could actually hear their amps from the stage from up there and suspect sound person just placed more of that into the hall speakers as well giving the music side a tad too much attention.
I love the two Dirty Knob albums but none of the lyrics got through. Even with the Petty numbers, it was a bit rough. However, when the band brought it down to some quiet parts, you could get more vocals. Those parts were highlights and you could see, feel and hear the band at work as a very tight group.
The newest member of the group at the 2nd lead fit right in as far as that goes. The use of the e-bow was fantastic. Different tones and effects from the pedal boards was like being at a clinic of what to do live.
All-in-all, I was glad to hear Mike at work. Dexterity comes though all over. Mike is able to involve the crowd in fun ways and started that early in the show - the first song actually - and got everyone into it real fast.
5 star show with 2-3 star sound. Hope to see him again sometime soon at a different venue perhaps.
