Death Cab for Cutie was formed in Bellingham, WA in 1997 and almost immediately entered the ranks of the era's definitive bands, fueled in large part by the remarkable power of co-founder, lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Benjamin Gibbard's complex, often bittersweet songcraft. The band made their worldwide popular breakthrough with 2003's RIAA Platinum certified Transatlanticism, later named by NPR as one of "The Decade's 50 Most Important Recordings." Plans, their 2005 Atlantic Records debut, saw Death Cab for Cutie ascending to even greater heights, earning RIAA platinum certification and a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Alternative Album" while spawning the chart-topping singles, "Soul Meets Body," "Crooked Teeth," and "I Will Follow You into the Dark," the latter of which was honored with a GRAMMY® nod for "Best Pop Performance By Duo Or Group With Vocals."
An amazing performance from an amazing band!! These guys never disappoint!!
It's been awhile since they've done such an intimate show at a smaller venue. Ben's jokes and stories were great. Sound was amazing. I just wished we got better views but the crowd was great and respectful. Snagged myself a 'sad music's T shirt and will be wearing it at their Postal Service + DCFC tour in the US! Can't wait!
Just a great band that keeps getting better live 20 years later.
Fantastic preformance. Cant wait to see them again!
Booked a table as always, service was great. All the staff are always top notch here. Not the best view from the table on the lower level at the front, cant see the entire band from there but we could see 2.5 of them lol. The venue was packed - Death Cab sold out 2 nights. They've been one of my fave bands since 2005, and they did not disappoint! They sound flawless live, and they bring SO much more energy than you'd expect with their mellow indie tunes.
Great sound and awesome energy. I saw these guys on the first night of a two night stand at the Commodore in Vancouver. They were so good that I contemplated picking up a ticket for the second night to see them again. They played a good mix of their new album and their old stuff. If you get a chance to see them do.
Awesome show. Great band. Great sound in the venue.
I have seen DCFC before and it was one of my favorite concerts. I bought these tickets a while ago and it really snuck up on me. I had minimal expectations as I thought I knew what I was getting into. BUT NO! I DID NOT PREPARE EMOTIONALLY FOR THIS. Ben and the band are playing at a higher level then ever before. Their new album absolutely rocks and their harder-rock-reimagining of We Looked Like Giants and Brothers on a Hotel Bed were amazing takes on classics. Unbelievable evening.
Everything was drowned out by heavily distorted bass and the venue stunk like cigarette smoke.
Loved seeing them live - they actually sound even better live then I expected. Fantastic musicianship and front man. Would love to see them next in a seated venue as the Grey Eagle made it difficult to see and hard to stand for so many hours on concrete. Please come back to Calgary soon and play the Jubilee!
