    A Relaxing Evening

by Jim on 2019-12-17Academy Theatre for Performing Arts - Lindsay

I have been to a number of Johns shows and he never disappoints in connecting with the audience. At this concert he took time to meet people at the entrance which is quite unusual for a performer to do. It was a terrible night for travelling due to snow and cold so unfortunately there were a number of no shows but the ones that braved the elements were given an enjoyable, intimate evening with a consummate artist. His back up musicians were the usual smooth accompaniment. I will be at his next local performance.

    Glenfiddich

by Anonymous on 2016-05-08Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

We were welcomed by the artist at the entrance to the venue. He shook our hand, thanked us for coming, just as if he were welcoming us into his home. He took time to talk, and even posed with a few people for a picture when asked. At intermission, the same, he was out there in the lobby, signing autographs (or copies of his CD) and generally mingling with the patrons. After the show, he was present until the last person left the venue, again thanking everyone for coming, posing for pictures, and signing CDs and whatever was presented to him to autograph. He conducted the show as if he were in his living room, talking about the history behind the songs, sharing personal anecdotes, allowing his two accompanieists the opportunity to share as well. When someone committed the faux pas of snaping a flash picture or two during the performance, he paused, invited her to the front, posed, and went on with the show. i could tell he was irritated, but he handled it all with aplomb and class. I was quite impressed. The grand old Walker Theatre (Burton Cummings) felt warm and inviting because of the way McDermott handled the show and himself. His tenor is warm and strong, and he posesses quite a range. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Great night of music and story telling

by klj1960 on 2016-05-08Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

First time I attended a concert but have listened to his music many times over the years. The best part for me was the stories he told of the history of the songs or the memories they evoked. So personable and down to earth. A great show!

    John McDermot

by oldgeiser on 2014-10-21Molson Canadian Studio at Hamilton Place - Hamilton

Fantastic as always, John is amazing. He is funny, personable and takes the time to interact with the audience as well as uses his break time to sign autographs and never refuses anyone a picture taken with him. Marvelous, can't say enough. Only regret is that there was not time to fit in a request.

    John McDermott ----totally perfect!!!

by corki on 2013-10-28Kelowna Community Theatre - Kelowna

John was great....even with an arm recently broken in 3 places, his performance was flawless. His stories are the best and his voice, as always, was amazing. His encore number, "Danny Boy" brought tears to my eyes, as did one of his Mum's favorite religious songs, the title of which sadly, escapes me. The 2 young folks that accompanied him were so very talented. God given gifts for sure. The evening was most enjoyable, and was more than worth the 2 and 1/2 hours we travelled to see the show. Thanks so much!!!!

    Very disappointing!

by Alimelek on 2012-11-27Century Casino - Edmonton

Though billed as a Christmas concert, there was little Christmas about it, very few Christmas songs. Though billed as a John McDermott concert, there was little heard from John McDermott. I think he had a cold or the flu, though we weren't told. The hour performance of some group before the star came on was very poor and not what one would expect with a performer like McDermott. The whole evening was too long and boring. Not worth the price of admission.
